Publication number: 20170002243Abstract: The disclosed technology relates to a working fluid for a low global warming potential (GWP) refrigeration system that includes a compressor, where the working fluid includes an ester based lubricant and a low GWP refrigerant, and where the ester based lubricant includes an ester of one or more branched carboxylic acids where said branched carboxylic acid contains 8 or less carbon atoms. The disclosed technology provides commercially useful low GWP working fluids (commercially useful working fluids based on low GWP refrigerants) that do not have the solubility and/or miscibility problems commonly seen in low GWP fluids, including high viscosity fluids and applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2015Publication date: January 5, 2017Inventors: Micheal I. Publication number: 20140138105Abstract: An aqueous fire sprinkler fluid containing low carbon number carboxylate salts for freezing point depression is described. The salts may be used in conjunction with glycols. The salts decrease the combustibility of the glycol containing fluids and give lower viscosity than higher glycol fluids, both benefitting fire sprinkler systems. These salt solutions are friendly to metal and CPVC pipes and are thus useful for fire sprinkler systems by not causing environmental stress cracking of the CPVC components and not being corrosive to the metal parts.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2012Publication date: May 22, 2014Applicant: LUBRIZOL ADVANCED MATERIALS, INC.Inventors: Matthew R. Kuwatch, Kenneth C. Lilje, Michael G. Foster, Andrew M. Olah

Patent number: 7208098Abstract: The present invention relates to a lubricating basestock for the blends of hydrofluorocarbon and optionally hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants comprising a blend of (A) at least one alkylbenzene and (B) at least one polyol ester. While alkylbenzenes are not miscible with the refrigerant blend at the desired operating temperature and pressure of refrigeration or air-conditioning systems, the addition of low concentration of polyol ester is found to greatly improve the miscibility of the alkylbenzene and polyol ester blend. An important criteria of the invention is that the lubricant blend of polyol ester and alkylbenzene are sufficiently miscible with the hydrofluorocarbon refrigerant blend both as a liquid and a gaseous refrigerant over the operational temperatures of the compression refrigeration system.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2002Date of Patent: April 24, 2007Assignee: The Lubrizol CorporationInventors: Hsinheng Li, Kenneth C. Patent number: 6127324Abstract: The present invention relates to a lubricating basestock comprising a blend of (A) at least one polyalkylene glycol and (B) at least one alkyl aromatic. Additives, such as antioxidants, corrosion inhibitors, and metal deactivators, can be added to the lubricating basestock. In one embodiment, the lubricating composition is free of naphthol. The blend can also be used in combination with a variety of oils of lubricating viscosity, with or without additives therein. According to the present invention, the lubricating composition exhibits excellent oxidation and thermal stability, demulsibility, and hydrolytic stability. The lubricating composition is particularly useful as a positive displacement compressor lubricant.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1999Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: The Lubrizol CorporationInventors: John C.
