  • Patent number: 9233382
Abstract: A liquid spraying apparatus includes a chassis having a front, a rear, opposite sides and a handle generally at the rear of the chassis. Wheels are rotatably mounted on the chassis for moving the spraying apparatus in a path over a subjacent surface. A tank is mounted on the chassis for holding liquid to be sprayed. An elongated spray boom is mounted at least at one side of the chassis. The boom has an inner end pivotally mounted to the chassis for movement of an outer end in a generally horizontal plane between an outboard position projecting outwardly of the chassis and an inboard position generally alongside the chassis. At least one spray nozzle is provided on the boom. Conduits are provided for feeding liquid from the tank to the nozzle. Positioning detents are provided for holding the boom in at least one intermediate position between the outboard and inboard positions to vary the width of the spray pattern as the apparatus is moved in the path over the subjacent surface.

  • Patent number: 7473379
Abstract: A composition for both de-icing and inhibiting formation of ice and snow that uses as its predominant ingredient desugared, sugar beet molasses which has been treated with alkali to increase its pH to at least 11, followed by holding for a time sufficient to degrade the carbohydrates and protein of the desugared, sugar beet molasses, and then the pH is lowered by acid addition to at least 10. These steps, in this sequence, substantially and surprisingly increase melt value.

  • Publication number: 20080023573
Abstract: A liquid de-icer applicator which is specifically designed for convenient de-icer application, as opposed to simple agricultural spray. The unit has a horizontal frame chassis with an attached push handle, a tank detachably mounted on the chassis for holding and dispensing liquid de-icer, a pair of foldable wing spray bars mounted to the front of the chassis which can move from folded or closed transport position to operational positions. The foldable wing spray bars are fluidly connected to a spray system which can be selectively operated at the spray bars or by use of a wand. The applicator has a pair of spaced apart wheels mounted near the rear end of the chassis, behind and below the tank in order to allow convenient and balanced mobility. Finally, there is an associated power supply (battery) for operation of the spray system and it is all housed under a protective housing. Preferably the unit includes a control panel mounted on the push handle.

  • Patent number: 7276178
Abstract: A method of forming a pan agglomerated deicer composition which avoids the need for a separate drying step. An agglomeration is accomplished by mixing at least partially anhydrous and halide salts of metals, grinding those into a fine powder, and pan agglomerating the fine powder with water or solutions of the halide salts which upon contact with the dry fine powder form fully hydrated and stable pan agglomerated salt mixtures which do not require drying.

  • Patent number: 5683619
Abstract: A method of making a vegetation-friendly ice melting composition with sub-zero ice melting characteristics is described. The method of making the composition includes mixing from about 60-90 parts by weight non-fully hydrated ice melter, which is preferably calcium chloride with from about 10-40 parts by weight of fertilizer, which is preferably urea. The most preferred composition is about 70 parts by weight of calcium chloride and about 30 parts by weight urea. The calcium chloride and urea are preferably admixed first to coat the calcium chloride. To this mixture is added a measured amount of powdered non-fully hydrated calcium chloride as a solid coatant. The non-fully hydrated calcium chloride by hydration forms a coating around the ice melt base. The resultant mixture is discharged from the mixer, screened and packaged.

  • Patent number: 5651915
Abstract: This composition consists of a coated composition of solid ice melting agents, abrasives and absorbents. The coated composition employs a coating of calcium chloride. The method of making the composition, also part of the invention, includes placing a solid ice melting agent such as urea, potassium chloride, sodium chloride and abrasives such as sand, gravel, cinders, and absorbents (i.e. calcined diatomaceous earth) into a mechanical stirring device; and spraying a measured amount of adhering solution on to the medium. This adhering solution may be made up, but not limited to, plain water, solutions of organic or inorganic solids with ice melting properties, etc. To this mixture is added a measured amount of powdered non-fully hydrated calcium chloride as a solid coatant. The non-fully hydrated calcium chloride by hydration forms a coating around the ice melt base. The resultant mixture is discharged from the mixer, screened and packaged.
