  • Patent number: 5535646
Abstract: A ratchet drive mechanism is substantially completely enclosed within the housing of a hand tool. The ratchet drive mechanism includes a drive link having forwardly and rearwardly disposed ends within the tool housing. The drive link is adapted to engage a movement-imparting element of the hand tool and to movably engage at least one pawl. The at least one pawl has two ends and extends continuously therebetween, and an angle substantially centrally along the length thereof to form an elbow at which the at least one pawl is movably connected to one end of the drive link. The ratchet drive mechanism also has a drive gear with a drive shaft extending axially therefrom. The drive gear is mounted within a forward end of the housing of the hand tool with the drive shaft disposed transversely relative to a longitudinal axis of the hand tool and extending beyond the confines of the tool housing for interengagement of an item to be turned.

  • Patent number: 4936701
Abstract: A universal joint for use with impact wrenches and the like comprising a coupling having a bore at one end for engaging the drive shaft of a wrench and a ball receiving cavity at its other end; a socket engaging part having a ball member disposed in the ball receiving cavity; and a guide sleeve concentrically and slidably mounted for free rotation to the coupling, the guide sleeve having a substantially smooth uninterrupted outer cylindrical surface which may be held between the fingers of an operator while the joint is rotating.

  • Patent number: 4640153
Abstract: A turbine engine construction comprises an accessory drive mechanism in which accessories are mounted circumferentially around the turbine casing. The engine includes a planetary gear mechanism driven by a shaft extending axially outward from compressor and turbine sections of the engine, and forwardly of the air intake in the turbine casing. Accessory drive assembly includes a planetary gear mechanism having a ring gear exposed through circumferentially spaced apertures in the turbine casing to driven gears extending outwardly from accessory housings secured to the periphery of the turbine casing.

  • Patent number: 4542658
Abstract: A torque measuring device is provided for measuring the engine torque of an engine having an output shaft and connecting through a gear box having a planetary gear arrangement to a load. The torque measuring device comprises a hub having an axis and supporting the stationary member of the planetary gear arrangement coaxial with the axis of the hub. An annulus is secured to and supports the gear box housing and is also secured to the hub by a plurality of circumferentially spaced spokes extending between the annulus and the hub and tangent to some circle coaxial to the hub. As the torque applied to the planetary gear arrangement increases, the hub rotates from its at rest position deflecting the spokes in proportion to the reaction torque of the stationary members. An arm extending outwardly from the hub cooperates with a position transducer to measure the amount of rotation of the hub with respect to the annulus and thus the torque on the planetary gear arrangement.

  • Patent number: 3980856
Abstract: A microwave oven has an up-opening oven door which is hinged to be movable in an arcuate path. The door moves between a closed lower position covering an aperture to the cooking cavity in the front surface of the oven cabinet and an open upper position above the aperture. The axis of this arcuate motion is adjacent the upper edge of the oven door and internal to the oven cabinet. Connecting arms extend from pivots within the cabinet through openings in the front surface of the oven cabinet, and connect to the oven door. To counterbalance spring biased linkage is fastened to the connecting arms and acts to bias the door to its open upper position when the door is opened beyond a neutral point.
