  • Publication number: 20210301784
Abstract: A large-scale, modular, wind power generating structure and system involving a toroidal or ovoidal shaped wind amplification structure/module that can be stacked vertically to form a tower that passively accelerates a wind flow that moves around each of the modules due to the Bernoulli Principle. Each amplification level includes a plurality of vertical axis wind turbine and generator assemblies, fairings, and vanes that form a synergistic system wherein the efficiency of the vertical axis turbine and generator assemblies and the amount of energy that can be produced per module are substantially improved compared to the turbine assemblies operating outside the integrated and amplified wind system.

  • Patent number: 9127646
Abstract: A wind power generating system in which a plurality of stationary modules form a toroidal shaped tower that accelerates wind passing around and between the modules due to the Bernoulli Effect. Between the modules are located a plurality of vertical axis wind turbine rotors with an integrated generator system that in combination forms an integrated rotor and generator assembly connected to a rotatable yaw platform via an improved support arm. The rotor and generator assemblies act independently of each other to accommodate different wind conditions at different altitudes and to provide partial production to significantly enhance overall wind production.

  • Patent number: 7679207
Abstract: A wind power generating apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a plurality of vertically stacked wind acceleration modules that are shaped to accelerate wind passing between them. At least one of the modules includes a rotor assembly, a continuously variable transmission (CVT) mechanically coupled to the rotor assembly, and an electrical generator mechanically coupled to the CVT. The electrical generator is capable of converting mechanical energy transferred by the CVT from the rotor assembly into electrical energy. A sensor may be mechanically coupled to the rotor assembly or the electrical generator and electrically coupled to a controller. The controller may control the CVT according to a signal received from the sensor such that the electrical generator operates within a predetermined range of rotational velocities.

  • Publication number: 20080284171
Abstract: A wind power generating apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a plurality of vertically stacked wind acceleration modules. The apparatus further includes a rotor assembly, an electrical generator mechanically coupled to the rotor assembly, and a sensor in communication with the electrical generator. The sensor is capable of sensing a characteristic of wind prior to the wind reaching the rotor assembly and the electrical generator is capable of adjusting its operation according to the wind characteristic sensed by the sensor. The sensor may be coupled to a controller, which may control the operation of the electrical generator according to a signal from the sensor. The electrical generator may include a continuously variable transmission and the controller may adjust the ratio of the rotational speeds of the transmission input and output according to the sensed wind characteristic.
