  • Patent number: 9614583
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for crosstalk avoidance in a telecommunications network are disclosed. In one aspect a method includes determining, by a network element and for each vectoring group from multiple vectoring groups, a transmission load of the vectoring group based on transmission loads of links within the vectoring group; allocating, by the network element, a different transmission interval to each vectoring group from the multiple vectoring groups based on the transmission load of the vectoring group and transmission loads of other vectoring groups in the multiple vectoring groups; and transmitting, during each different transmission interval, at least a portion of the transmission load of the vectoring group that was allocated the different transmission interval.

  • Patent number: 9553818
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for implementing biased bonding. In one aspect, a method includes estimating an offered load. Data are transmitted over a first communications link of two or more different types of communications links while the estimated offered load is less than or equal to a specified amount. A determination is made that the estimated offered load has exceeded the specified amount. In response to the determination data are transmitted over both of the first communications link and a second communications link of the two or more different types of communications links in response to determining that the estimated offered load has exceeded the specified amount.

  • Patent number: 5933431
Abstract: The frame based modulus interleaver is used in a digital communications system. The interleaver uses an algorithm which insures that all of the data blocks which are present in the each input frame are output in a single output frame. This is accomplished, in accordance with the invention, by using a modulus operation to determine the location of each block which is input into the interleaver.

  • Patent number: 5881047
Abstract: A first phase change is introduced to an analog signal based on a symbol specified by a data signal, where the symbol is one of a plurality of symbols in a symbol constellation. The analog signal is added to the data signal to form a combined signal which is transmitted over a communication channel that introduces a channel phase change to the analog and data signals. After transmission through the communication channel, the combined signal comprises a phase changed analog signal and a phase changed data signal. A received symbol is specified by the phase changed data signal, and a phase shift is introduced to the phase changed analog signal based on the identity of the received symbol.

  • Patent number: 5711012
Abstract: An new cellular interface directly couples the speaker and microphone of a cellular telephone to a simultaneous voice and data (SVD) modem. This interface allows a cellular telephone user to use their cellular telephone for simultaneous voice and data communications over the cellular network. In addition, of the SVD modem has a port coupled to a switched facility of a switching system, this cellular interface allows the cellular telephone user to place a telephone call from their cellular telephone over the switched facility.

  • Patent number: 5684825
Abstract: A central office of a public switched telephone network has a modem pool that includes both simultaneous voice and data (SVD) capable modems and standard, e.g., CCITT V.32 compatible, modems. A user with an SVD modem, i.e., an SVD user, establishes an SVD link with the SVD modem of the central office. These SVD modems exchange SVD signals that include voice and data. The SVD modem of the central office separates the voice and data portions of the SVD signal for separate transmission to different parties. The voice portion of the SVD signal receives standard voice-call handling from the central office for transmission to the party that is a part of the voice call. The data portion of the SVD signal is routed through the standard modem of the central office for transmission to the party that is a part of the data call.

  • Patent number: 5671250
Abstract: In a simultaneous voice and data communications system comprising two modems, an autorate feature is implemented in one illustrative method by adding a silence detector to the receiver circuitry of at least one of the modems in such a way that noise statistics for the communications channel are only accumulated during intervals of silence. If the resulting noise statistics exceed a predetermined threshold, i.e., the communications channel is too noisy, the receiving modem negotiates a lower data rate with the transmitting modem. In another illustrative method, the transmitting modem provides a signal, which represents an interval of silence, to the receiving modem. Upon receipt of the signal, the receiving modem accumulates error statistics in order to determine if the communications channel is too noisy.

  • Patent number: 5661718
Abstract: A method and apparatus for concurrent communication of analog information and digital information. In general terms, when the communication channel is viewed as a multi-dimensional space, the digital information signal is divided into symbols, and the symbols are mapped onto the signal space with a preset distance between them. The analog signal, generally limited in magnitude to less than the distance separating the symbols, is converted to component signals and added (i.e., vector addition) to the symbols. The sum signal is then transmitted to the receiver where the symbols are detected and subtracted from the received signal to yield the analog signal components. The transmitted analog signal is recreated from those components. Both half-duplex and full-duplex operation is available in accordance with the disclosure.

  • Patent number: 5648989
Abstract: A simultaneous voice and data (SVD) modem includes a preemphasis filter for processing an audio source signal, e.g., a voice signal, before transmission to a far-end SVD-capable modem. The preemphasis filter implements a second order linear predictor in which a quantized set of predictor coefficients are selected directly from the normalized autocorrelation coefficients. In addition, an index is associated with the selected set of predictor coefficients. This index is transmitted to an opposite SVD-capable modem, which thereby allows the opposite SVD-capable modem to select the same set of predictor coefficients for use in recovering the voice signal at the opposite endpoint.
