  • Patent number: 8114335
Abstract: A method and apparatus for partial depth-wise cure of a tire inner liner are disclosed. The method comprising forming a layer of uncured rubber, that layer having a first surface and an opposite surface, applying pressure to the layer of rubber, heating the layer of rubber from the first surface to more fully cure the layer on that surface than on the opposite surface, cooling the layer of rubber and releasing the pressure applied to the layer of rubber after the layer has cooled.

  • Publication number: 20090071587
Abstract: An improved tire cord fabric is provided that has a main portion and a tabby. The tire cord fabric is comprised of warp cords oriented in the longitudinal direction and weft yarns oriented in the lateral direction. The warp cords are used in reinforcing pneumatic tires. In the tabby, the weft yarns have an increased count per inch versus the count per inch of the weft yarns in the main portion of the fabric. The weft yarns in the tabby are preshrunk prior to weaving of the tire cord fabric.

  • Patent number: 6439090
Abstract: A method of removing waste material from an annular, elastomeric article 10. The method includes the steps of: securing at least a portion of the annular, elastomeric article 10; securing at least a portion of the waste material; penetrating the waste material with a cutting tool 52; and guiding the cutting tool 52 through the waste material. The method is characterized by the step of stretching the waste material prior to guiding the cutting tool 52. In the preferred method, the waste material is stretched a distance sufficient to simultaneously apply some degree of tension to the unsecured portions of the waste material.

  • Patent number: 6215205
Abstract: A conveyor assembly and method for conveying and storing a strip material in a conveyor system that is subject to changes in length of the strip material due to intermittent operation includes an upper conveyor (16), an adjustable substantially horizontal center conveyor (22) for receiving the strip material (34) from the upper conveyor, and a lower conveyor (28) for receiving the associated strip material from the center conveyor. A computer (94) controls the movement and rotation of the center conveyor, and loop detecting apparatus on the center conveyor may also detect a loop (90) in the strip material carried by the center conveyor and thereby detecting changes in length of the strip material not predetermined by the computer. A servomechanism (100) activated by signals from the computer or the loop detecting apparatus moves the center conveyor in a substantially horizontal direction.

  • Patent number: 5730829
Abstract: A turret for a tire building system having two drums with drum shafts mounted on the turret and adjusted so that the axes of the drum will be offset and parallel providing a compact turret assembly with a minimum shaft length and weight. The offset drum shafts provide for positioning of the drums in operating positions of different heights relative to the floor surface so that manual operations can be carried out at the lower drum position where there is easy access by an operator. Safety provisions are incorporated to disengage the motor and stop rotation of the turret if the motor does not stop and thereby protect the operator and the turret mechanism.
