  • Patent number: 7282362
Abstract: A feeding tray for retaining a liquid nutrient liquid is provided for use with a multiwell filter plate. The feeding tray includes a flat support surface surrounded by walls which retain liquid on the support surface. The flat support surface includes protrusions positioned to contact the membrane portion of a multiplicity of wells of the multiwell filter plate when the multiwell filter plate is removed from the feeding tray. These protrusions remove residual liquids from the bottom of each filter well thereby minimizing cross contamination in subsequent processing steps. Additionally, it may contain one or more baffles, in lieu of or in addition to the protrusions for controlling liquid movement during handling.

  • Patent number: 7166257
Abstract: A multiwell test apparatus formed of a multiwell filter plate having a plurality of wells and a first feeding plate and a second receiver plate is provided. The wells of the multiwell filter plate each have an open bottom surface to which a membrane is attached, at least one first access hole providing access to the feeding/receiver plate below, a pair of alignment pins designed to fit alignment holes in the feeding/receiver plates in a particular arrangement. The first feeding plate is a single well plate or a multiwell plate used solely for feeding. The second receiver plate is a multiwell plate having the same number of wells as the filter plate and aligned so as to receive the wells of the filter plate therein used as the assaying plate. The use of alignment holes in the feeding/receiver plates and alignment posts in the filter plate ensure precise alignment of the plates when together.

  • Publication number: 20060286003
Abstract: Multiwell filter comprising a filter plate having a plurality of wells, each including a support. Each well has a corresponding adjacent access port providing access to the corresponding feeding/receiver plate well, e.g. via a pipette. When the filter plate is positioned over a feeding/receiver plate having a plurality of wells, each well of the feeding/receiving plate aligns with and communicates with a corresponding filter plate well. Each access port provides access to a respective well in the feeding/receiver plate, and the wells in the filter plate are not centrally located with respect to the feeding/receiver plate wells, but are shifted in the x and y directions relative to the receiver wells in an amount effective for reducing or eliminating capillary holdup in the gap between the filter wells and the feeding/receiver wells. The wells in the feeding/receiver plate preferably are formed in a U-shaped bottom below each access port.

  • Patent number: 7135149
Abstract: A multiwell test apparatus comprising a multiwell filter plate and having wells that fit within the wells of a single or multiwell receiver plate is provided. The multiwell filter plate also is provided with posts which fit into holes of the receiver plate. The posts and holes are shaped to fix the position of the wells of the multiwell filter plate within the well(s) of the receiver plate and to permit controlled lateral movement of the multiwell filter plate when it is partially removed from the receiver plate so that excess liquid on the wells of the multiwell filter plate can be directed into the well(s) of the receiver plate.

  • Publication number: 20050266577
Abstract: The combination of a supported UF membrane having low non-specific binding (NSB) and high protein retention of the tested chemical entity (CE) in a device that is SBS complaint. The membrane is heat sealed to form one or more integral wells that are used to reduce NSB and improve protein retention and provides a simple, flexible way to reduce CE, such as drug and drug candidate (and other small molecule) NSB so that drug binding studies may more closely predict the behavior of these compounds in vivo.

  • Publication number: 20050236317
Abstract: The present invention relates to a multiwell filtration plate system formed of a multiwell filter plate, an underdrain, preferably having spouts as the outlet from the underdrain and a collection device such as a collection plate and the use of a mechanical device such as a fixture in the form of a post, a ramp, a rib, a spout protector ring and the like formed in the collection plate wells or on the outside of the underdrain or both for contacting a forming pendant drop formed on the spout of the underdrain and transferring it to the collection plate well.

  • Publication number: 20050095175
Abstract: Underdrain design for a multiwell device that when fixed to the device (either as an integral or removable component thereof), allows for adequate venting during filtration, minimizes or prevents air lock, and has improved structural integrity. Also disclosed is a laboratory device designed particularly for a multiplate format that includes a plate or tray having a plurality of wells, and an underdrain in fluid communication with each of the plurality of wells. The underdrain can be a separate, removable piece, or can be an integral unitary structure with the plate or tray forming a one-piece design. The design is preferably in compliance with SBS format.

  • Publication number: 20050051471
Abstract: The present invention provides an underdrain having an improved spout. The underdrain has particular utility in the construction of both single-well and microarray filtration devices. In a principal embodiment, the underdrain is characterized by its incorporation of a straight-walled, roughly-textured spout, the spout being provided with microhole(s) at a terminal end thereof for the discharge of fluid conducted through the underdrain. An array comprising several of such underdrains can be mated with a corresponding array of wells, with separation material (e.g., membrane material) provided therebetween. The resultant microarray filtration device can be used for conducting several fluid assays contemporaneously with, for example, good “pendant drop” control and low “cross-talk”.
