  • Patent number: 10170220
Abstract: A cable which comprises a plurality of pairs of first and second insulated conductors. The first and the second insulated conductors, of each pair, are twisted with one another to form a twisted pair and each of the twisted pairs has a different lay length from one another. Each of the plurality of twisted pairs is wrapped with a hoop strength wrap which maintains a mechanical strength and integrity of the twisted pair during subsequent handing thereof, and a circumference of the hoop strength wrap is about 5% or less than a dielectric pair minimum circumference of the first and the second insulated conductors of the twisted pair. At least one metallic wrap is provided for shielding and grounding of the plurality of twisted pairs. The plurality of twisted pairs and the at least one metallic tape are surrounded and encased by a conventional exterior jacket to form the cable.

  • Publication number: 20180075949
Abstract: A cable which comprises first, second, third and fourth twisted pairs, and each of the first, the second, the third and the fourth twisted pairs comprising first and second insulated conductors. Each one of the first, the second, the third and the fourth twisted pairs has a different lay length from one another with the first of the twisted pairs having a shortest lay length and the fourth of the twisted pairs having a longest lay length. The first and second insulated conductors of at least the fourth twisted pair, with the longest lay length, are bound together with one another by a wrap which prevents the first and second insulated conductors, of the fourth twisted pair, from becoming separated from one another during subsequent manufacture, handing and/or installation of the cable.

  • Patent number: 4964691
Abstract: An optical fiber cable having a predetermined length includes a plurality of optical fibers, each fiber having first and second ends. The first ends of the fibers are located coincidental with a first end of the optical fiber cable. The optical fibers are provided with differing lengths so that the second ends of the optical fibers are disposed at different locations along the length of the optical fiber cable. Indicia are provided on the cable to indicate the locations of the second ends of the fibers.

  • Patent number: 4944570
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a fiber optic cable comprising a central core which has one or more helical channels in its periphery. One or more tubes containing a dielectric water-blocking compound and one or more optical fibers are positioned in the channels. The fibers are randomly arranged within the tubes in such a way that tensile stresses on the cable are not transmitted to them, thus providing an elongation window. Finally, the assembly formed by the core and the tube or tubes is wrapped with a serving of metal wires. In one embodiment, the core and tubes may be wrapped with a tape layer before the outer metal wires are applied. Any interstices among the core, the tube or tubes, and tape may also be filled with another dielectric water-blocking compound.

  • Patent number: 4757675
Abstract: An apparatus and a process for simultaneously twisting a channeled core rod, inserting optical fibers into the channels and capturing the twist of the rod while minimizing the insertion stresses imposed on the optical fibers. The apparatus comprises a shape capture die, an insertion die and a core capture means which are located proximate one another to provide a short region of twisting. The insertion die is rotationally fixed to the shape capture die so that as the core passes through the center of the insertion die the fibers are automatically inserted into the channels of the core. The core and inserted fibers are then passed to a core capture means which controls rotation of the core but permits its axial translation. The rotating elements of the machine are driven from a line shaft or other suitable means providing them with identical rotation rates.
