Patent number: 8262081Abstract: An apparatus for a media feeding system having a trail edge guide, a frame, an elevator, a feed head and a stack of media including a plurality of sheets of media disposed on the elevator, wherein the plurality of sheets of media include an uppermost set of sheets of media located at a top portion of the stack of media. The apparatus includes a trail edge deflector having a body including an angularly disposed lower surface, at least one opening, and at least one stopping surface. The angularly disposed lower surface being shaped to contact and thereby shingle the uppermost set of sheets of media, the at least one opening being shaped for complimentary sliding engagement with the trail edge guide thereby permitting the trail edge deflector to slide along a portion of the trail edge guide and the at least one stopping surface being shaped to limit downward sliding movement of the trail edge deflector along the trail edge guide.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2010Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Brian R. Ford, Kenneth E. Giunta, Douglas K. Herrmann

Patent number: 8128307Abstract: A structure includes two plates (planar plates) joined at right angles to one another. The first plate has a non-round opening (first opening) and can include tabs extending from one end (a first end) of the first plate. The second plate has a round opening and/or a notch, depending upon implementation. The second plate can also include tab openings on opposite sides of the round opening, again depending upon implementation. If a notch is used, the notch is positioned along an edge of the second plate (positioned along a second end of the second plate). When the first and second plates are connected, the optional tabs are positioned within the optional tab openings, a first end of the first plate being connected to the second end of the second plate. A locking structure is positioned within the first opening, the round opening, and the notch (if used). The locking structure connects the first plate to the second plate.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2008Date of Patent: March 6, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Kenneth E. Giunta, Herman Young, Brian C. Cyr

Patent number: 7062218Abstract: A quad roll sheet curl control apparatus uses elastomer first and second rolls forming first and second nips with third and fourth rolls. The first and second rolls have compressible surfaces, while the third and fourth roll surfaces are formed of a substantially uncompressible material. A pivotable gate member in operating relationship with the first and second nips directs sheets to either the first or the second nip whereby the desired decurling orientation is achieved for the sheet by either the elastomer first roll or the elastomer second roll. Switching nips and curl to be induced does not require drive reversal as previous decurler arrangements do. The degree of decurling can be adjusted with at least one cam in communication with at least one of the first and second rolls.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2003Date of Patent: June 13, 2006Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Daniel H. Burnett, Kenneth E. Giunta, Donald E. Johnston, Arthur H. Kahn, Anthony G. Poletto, Harry Ramos

Patent number: 6314268Abstract: A tri-roll sheet curl control apparatus is described which includes an elastomer first roll forming a first nip with a second roll, the first roll having a compressible surface. The apparatus includes an elastomer third roll having a compressible surface which forms a second nip with the second roll surface. The second roll surface is formed of a material having a substantially noncompressible surface. The apparatus further includes a pivotable gate member that is in operating relationship with the first, second and third rolls so as to direct a sheet to either the first or the second nip so that the desired decurling orientation is achieved for the sheet by either the elastomer first roll or the elastomer third roll.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2000Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Kenneth E.
