  • Patent number: 6259764
Abstract: An amplitude-type Fresnel zone plate for focusing incident X-rays is formed in a single-crystal layer. For incident X-rays that are above a threshold energy level and that are directed at the zone plate at a specified angle, Bragg reflection occurs from crystallographic planes within the elements of the zone plate even when the layer is exceedingly thin. Accordingly, zone plates with extremely narrow elements may be fabricated. In turn, this allows the realization of zone plates capable of focusing X-rays to very small spot sizes.
