  • Patent number: 4977005
Abstract: A champagne bottom plastic bottle having the bottom reinforced by internal radiating ribs which are formed by solid material. The bottle is formed in the customary manner by utilizing a preform which has molded on the inner surface thereof longitudinal ribs. The preform is formed by conventional injection molding equipment which has been modified only to form along the lower part of the customary core member longitudinally extending rib forming grooves.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 27, 1979
Date of Patent: December 11, 1990
    Assignee: The Continental Group, Inc.
Inventors: Suppayan M. Krishnakumar, Kenneth F. M. Friendship, Gautam K. Mahajan, John F. E. Pocock

  • Patent number: 4531650
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a closure formed of plastics material for use in conjunction with a container also formed of a plastics material. The closure is particularly adapted for use with containers in the form of bottles which are intended to have a product packaged therein under pressurized conditions. The closure cooperates with a lip of the bottle so as to radially inwardly deform the lip with the exterior surface of the lip forming a seal with the closure. The portion of the closure engaging the lip is drawn radially inwardly under pressure by the axial deformation of an end panel of the closure.

  • Patent number: 4525401
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a plastic bottle having a bottom structure of the champagne bottle type. The bottom is reinforced by radiating ribs which are circumferentially spaced and the ribs, utilizing a minimum of material, stiffen the bottom so as to prevent the domed inner section of the bottom from reverting and also greatly resist creep of the bottom under the influence of time and internal pressure. The ribs may be only across the juncture section between inner and outer sections of the bottom, or may extend entirely from the outer section across the juncture section and substantially to the domed center of the domed section. The ribs may also be upstanding and serve to function as guides for a liquid product being placed into the bottle so as to reduce turbulences and aid in expediting the filling operation.

  • Patent number: 3971173
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a process of reducing the creep characteristics of plastic containers, principally bottles, jugs or the like, by providing a cartridge having upper and lower ends and a plurality of vertically extending transversely inter-connected chambers also having upper and lower ends, blow molding a plurality of containers, stacking the blow molded containers vertically upwardly through the lower ends of the chambers toward the upper ends thereof atop and in contact with each other in an upright position in each chamber, transferring the cartridge into a heat treatment bay, circulating hot air in contact with the plastic containers in a direction upwardly from and through the lower ends through the upper ends in an open condition and through and between the chambers for a predetermined period of time and at a predetermined temperature sufficient to reduce the creep characteristics of the plastic containers, and removing the cartridge from the heat treatment bay.
