  • Publication number: 20180229237
Abstract: A flow cell is provided that includes surface-attached structures in a chamber. The structures are movable in response to a magnetic or electric field. A target extraction or isolation system includes the flow cell and a driver configured for applying a magnetic or electric field to the interior of the flow cell to actuate movement of the structures. The flow cell may be utilized to extract or isolate a target from a sample flowing through the flow cell. Further, a microfluidic system is provided that includes surface-attached structures and a microarray, wherein actuated motion of the surface-attached structures is used to enhance flow, circulation, and/or mixing action for analyte capture on the microarray.

  • Patent number: 8745932
Abstract: An interment system (110) comprises a container arrangement (109) configured to hold the posthumous remains of a plurality of individuals arranged one above the other. The container arrangement defines a posthumous remains receiving chamber (156) in which the remains of the plurality of individuals can be held. The container arrangement (109) may comprise an outer interment container (112) and an inner interment container (150) which can be received within the outer interment container. The inner interment container (150) defines the aforesaid chamber (156).

  • Publication number: 20060263005
Abstract: A method of providing dispersion compensation includes providing a dispersion signal indicative of an amount of dispersion for at least one channel of a multi-channel optical signal. A dispersion compensator is controlled in accordance with the dispersion signal to optically compensate for the dispersion of the optical signal.

  • Publication number: 20060062504
Abstract: A device and method for uniformly providing lubricant to rotating machine parts is provided. The device comprises an axially mounted rotating circumferential lubricant reservoir with a weir comprising one side of the lubricant reservoir. The reservoir and weir are disposed at uniform radius and circumferentially about an axis of rotation causing lubricant added to the reservoir to flow uniformly over the weir about the circumference of the weir when the device is in high speed rotational motion. Because of the uniform flow of lubricant over the top of the weir around the circumference of the weir, lubricant can be directed to machine parts requiring lubrication in a uniform manner around the circumference of the moving device.

  • Patent number: 6170728
Abstract: An apparatus for performing a work operation on sheet material includes a plurality of drive wheels for driving the sheet material in cooperation with a plurality of pinch rollers along a feed path. Each of the drive wheels includes a drive surface having a plurality of primary teeth and a plurality of secondary teeth. Each primary tooth includes a top surface and a plurality of primary contact points to engage the sheet material. Each secondary tooth includes either a secondary contact line or a secondary contact point that come into contact with the sheet material to provide additional driving force and to prevent the sheet material from being perforated by the primary teeth. The primary teeth and the secondary teeth of the drive wheels engage the sheet material to advance the sheet material along the feed path. The drive surface of the drive wheels of the present invention minimizes slippage of the sheet material in the drive apparatus without damaging the sheet material.
