    Abstract: Detecting a leak from a site in a sealed system with a source of pressurized gas which is capable of passing through the site, a composition of matter which adheres to the surfaces of the system and which is capable of showing the presence of the gas escaping from the site. The method includes: injecting gas into the system to a pressure in excess of the surrounding pressure, and covering the external surface with the composition to identify the location of the site by the interaction of the escaping gas with the composition. The composition is foam that includes a surfactant which forms a least one bubble in the presence of escaping gas and an indicator which changes color in the presence of the escaping gas. The leak is an opening down to at least the size of a hole 0.001? in diameter. A gas detector may also be used.

This foam then changes color from a first color to a second color over the exact leak site.

    Abstract: A process for recovering gold from thiosulfate leach solutions and slurries in which gold is loaded into an ion exchange resin. Gold is recovered from the resin by elution with polythionate ions and the resin is regenerated with sulfide or sulfite. Gold is recovered from the eluate by precipitation with sulfide ions, cementation or electrowinning. The invention also provides for a process of manufacturing polythionate ion solutions suitable for eluting gold from ion exchange resins.

Gold and copper are subsequently loaded onto an ion exchange resin. Copper is recovered from the resin by elution with a thiosulfate solution; gold is recovered from the resin by elution with a thiocyanate colution. Gold is recovered from the eluate by precipitation, electrowinning, or cementation.

    Abstract: A process for recovering gold in which an ore slurry of refractory sulfidic and refractory carbonaceous ore having preg-robbing characteristics due to the presence of organic carbon is subjected to pressure oxidation in an autoclave. The oxidized ore slurry is mixed with a thiosulfate salt lixiviant, which mixture is maintained at a pH between 7 and 8.7 while the slurry is agitated in a stirred tank reactor system having agitated leach tanks. Gold is recovered from the gold-bearing leachate by cementation, adsorption on an adsorbent, or cyanidation.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improvement in a process for the recovery of gold from refractory sulfidic auriferous ores which comprises oxidizing a slurry of ore with oxygen gas under pressure in the presence of sulfuric acid, neutralizing the oxidized slurry, cyanidizing the neutralized slurry to leach gold therefrom, and recovering gold from the resultant leachate. In accordance with the improved process, the oxidation of the ore slurry is carried out in a manner whereby, after a startup phase during which oxidation is initiated, the amount of sulfuric acid added to the ore slurry is sufficient to insure the oxidation of that portion of the sulfide sulfur in the ore which will allow recovery, by cyanide leaching, of at least about 80% of the gold in the ore. The oxidized slurry can be neutralized without a washing operation.
