  • Patent number: 6382207
Abstract: A device for preventing ignition of an endotracheal tube during laser surgery is provided, wherein the device permits communication among a sensor associated with endotracheal tube and a laser which generates the laser beam. When the sensor and endotracheal tube are impinged by the laser, the sensor senses this impingement, and communicates with a controller which controls power entering the laser beam. Because of such communication, the controller impedes power entering the laser, which extinguishes the laser and prevents ignition of the endotracheal tube.

  • Patent number: 6042548
Abstract: The monitor provides a means of registering and(or) predicting changes in brain and central nervous system activity by processing cardiovascular monitoring data and using pattern recognition by trained computing means to predict changes in the state of the central nervous system. Hence, a "virtual" neurological monitor is created where cardiovascular data are processed through the described means and a set of real-time neurological state predictions are made.

  • Patent number: 5957853
Abstract: A biological pressure measuring system with a transmission device for transmitting a biological pressure at a biological location to a pressure monitor/transducer for measuring the biological pressure. An atmospheric pressure transmission device transmits an atmospheric pressure at a reference location to a reference pressure device for measuring atmospheric pressure and a vertical fluid pressure of the fluid in the atmospheric transmission device. The reference pressure device generates a reference pressure signal with a reference excitation signal representing a pressure of the fluid from the atmospheric pressure transmission device, a vertical distance between the reference location and the reference pressure transducer device being substantially similar to a vertical distance between the transducer and biological location. A signal connection device combines the biological pressure signal and the reference pressure signal into a combined signal.

  • Patent number: 5054225
Abstract: A gunslight aiming device which employs various methods of image transmission to allow the user of a weapon to be positioned at various locations spaced from the weapon thereby permitting a wider variety firing positions, faster aiming between firing, and accurate aiming regardless of the relationship between head and aiming eye(s) and weapon. The arrangement provides a transmission mechanism preferably in the form of a flexible fiber optic cable which is coupled to a standard optical sight by a coupling mechanism which conditions the signal for transmission by the flexible optic trunk. The image is again conditioned at a second coupling arrangement for viewing by the user.

  • Patent number: 4880413
Abstract: A cover for protecting sharp medical instruments, such as needles and syringes, includes a shield, a tapered hollow body which permits a sharp instrument to be guided toward an interior of the cover and an annular stabilization means provided at a smaller diameter end of the cover which sealingly engages the instrument to prevent the transverse motion thereof.
