Patent number: 7081854Abstract: An antenna for use in a portable electronic communication apparatus has a pattern of a conductive material. The pattern of conductive material is printed on the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) (7), comprising the RF circuitry of the portable electronic communication apparatus, to which antenna pattern is connected. The pattern comprises a first and second antenna arm, which together for a PIFA antenna and are resonating in a first and second frequency band, respectively. As an alternative, the antenna pattern forms a multi-port antenna having separate antenna arms for Rx and Tx, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2003Date of Patent: July 25, 2006Assignee: Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications ABInventors: Zhinong Ying, Kenneth Håkansson

Patent number: 6950065Abstract: A mobile communications device has a multifrequency band antenna with a low band portion (LB) tuned to a low frequency band, and a first high band portion (HB1) tuned to a first high frequency band at higher frequencies than the low frequency band. The low band portion (LB) and the first high band portion (HB1) have a common first grounding point (GP1), a common feeding point (FP) for feeding input signals to the antenna and for receiving signals from the antenna, and a first conductor portion (CP1), which forms part of the low band portion (LB) and of the first high band portion (HB1). The first conductor portion (CP1) is electrically connected to the first grounding point (GP1) and to the common feeding point (FP). A second high band portion (HB2) is coupled to the first conductor portion (CP1) and tuned to a second high frequency band at a higher frequency than the low frequency band and different from the first high frequency band.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2002Date of Patent: September 27, 2005Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Zhinong Ying, Kenneth Håkansson

Patent number: 6442377Abstract: A radio telephone, preferably intended for cellular telecommunication, has an apparatus housing (20) and at least one antenna (21), which is mounted to or in connection with the apparatus housing for performing the wireless communication of the radio telephone by transmitting and receiving radiofrequent electromagnetic waves in a given wavelength range. A current-reducing means (30, 31) is mounted to the apparatus housing (20) between the antenna (21) and a side (23) of the radio telephone, which during normal use faces a human user (1). The means has conductive as well as dielectric properties and is arranged to reduce or eliminate electric currents present in and/or on the apparatus housing (20) between the antenna (21) and said side (23) of the radio telephone.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1997Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Dag Johan Fredrik Mårtensson, Hans Kenneth Håkansson, Zhinong Ying

Patent number: 6307511Abstract: A portable electronic communication device, such as a mobile telephone, has first and second housing elements, which are moveable relative to each other, and an antenna system for electromagnetic communication within at least two different frequency bands. The antenna system is made by a printed pattern of an electrically conductive material, which is arranged on the second housing element and is connected to elements for radio communication inside the first housing element. A first portion of the printed pattern resonates at a frequency within a first frequency band, and a second portion of the printed pattern resonates at a frequency within a second frequency band.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1998Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: Zhinong Ying, Dag Mårtensson, Kenneth Håkansson

Patent number: 5963871Abstract: According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, retractable antennas are described for use in two or more frequency hyperbands. The retractable antennas can include a whip antenna, operable when the retractable antenna is extended and a non-uniform helical antenna, operable when the retractable antenna is retracted. For example, retractable antennas can be designed according to the present invention for usage in portable terminals capable of operating both at 800 MHz and at 1900 MHz. Tuning for the whip antenna is accomplished using a matching circuit. Tuning to both resonance frequencies for the non-uniform helical antenna can be accomplished by varying parameters of the helical structure including, for example, the pitch angle, coil diameter, length and number and spacing of the coil turns.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1996Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: Ying Zhinong, Kenneth Hakansson
