    Abstract: This invention is directed to an extinction recycle naphtha hydrocracking processes. Large pore zeolite catalysts with Constraint Indices less than 2, such as USY or beta, which are loaded with noble metals such as Pt or Pd or with transition metals such as Ni in combination with Mo or W are employed. Preferably, low hydrogen partial pressures, and a feedstock relatively rich in hydrogen and low in aromatics content, are used, in order to extend catalyst cycle length.

    Abstract: A novel alkylation catalyst is described which is used in processes for alkylating olefin hydrocarbons with isoparaffin hydrocarbons to produce high octane alkylate products suitable for use as blending components of gasoline motor fuel. The novel catalyst comprises a mixture of a hydrogen halide, a sulfone and water and has suitable corrosion properties which permit its utilization in alkylation process systems. The novel alkylation catalyst is utilized in a novel process for alkylating olefin hydrocarbons with isoparaffin hydrocarbons.

    Abstract: There is provided a process for ring opening of aromatics and cycloaliphatics, as well as isomerization of aliphatics. The feedstream to this process comprises hydrocarbons having 6 carbon atoms. The process involves the use of at least two reactors connected in series. The first reactor comprises a zeolite catalyst and is operated under conditions which particularly promote ring opening. The catalyst in this first reactor may comprise zeolite Beta and platinum. A downstream reactor is operated under conditions to promote isomerization of aliphatics. The catalyst in the second reactor may comprise alumina, platinum and a chloride component. Hydrogen in the effluent of the first reactor may be removed and recycled to the first reactor. Hydrogen required for the second reactor may be satisfied by hydrogen remaining dissolved in the effluent from the first reactor after hydrogen is recycled to the first reactor.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for separating conjunct polymers and sulfolane from a mixture containing conjunct polymers, sulfolane, and hydrofluoric acid comprising the sequential steps of:(a) separating hydrofluoric acid from said mixture to provide an intermediate stream containing less than about 30 percent hydrofluoric acid by weight;(b) gravitationally separating said intermediate stream into a sulfolane-enriched stream and a conjunct polymer-enriched stream;(c) contacting said sulfolane-enriched stream with a polar extraction solvent to provide an extract stream enriched in sulfolane and a raffinate stream enriched in conjunct polymers;(d) stripping the polar extraction solvent from said sulfolane-enriched extract stream; and(e) recovering sulfolane from said enriched stream of step (d).

    Abstract: Paraffins, especially paraffins in the C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 range, are isomerized to iso-paraffins over an isomerization catalyst comprising a noble metal such as platinum on a support material comprising an inorganic, non-layered, porous, crystalline phase aluminosilicate material with pores of at least 13 .ANG. and which exhibits, after calcination, an X-ray diffraction pattern with at least one peak at a d-spacing greater than 18 .ANG.. These materials have a high surface area and sorption capacity marked by a benzene adsorption capacity of greater than about 15 grams benzene per 100 grams at 50 torr and 25.degree. C. In its preferred form, the support material has a uniform, hexagonal arrangement of pores with diameters of at least about 13 .ANG. and a hexagonal electron diffraction pattern that can be indexed with a d.sub.100 value greater than about 18 .ANG. which corresponds to at least one peak in the X-ray diffraction pattern.
