    Abstract: A tool is provided for driving a slide or wedge within a slot of an armature or field of a dynamoelectric machine. The armature or field includes a core, and the core includes one or more vent slots for facilitating ventilation of the armature or field. The tool includes a drive for applying a driving force, and a push block is connected to the drive. At least one guide rail is configured to cooperate with the push block. The drive operates on the push block to drive a slide or wedge. The at least one guide rail reduces deflection or skew of the push block during a driving operation.

    Abstract: A tool is disclosed for driving a slide under a wedge within a slot of an armature or field of a dynamoelectric machine. The tool comprises a frame including a pair of elongated rail members; a force application block located between the rail members; a drive connected to the frame, substantially intermediate opposite ends of the frame; a lead screw threadably engaged at one end with the force application block and connected at an opposite end to the drive such that the drive rotates the lead screw when actuated. Rotation of the lead screw causes axial movement of the force application block. The armature or field includes a core, and this core may have one or more vent slots for facilitating ventilation of the armature or field. A slot plate for locating the tool relative to the slide is present, and a portion of the slot plate extends into one or more vent slots. The slot plate establishes a reaction point for forces applied by the force application block to the stator slide.

    Abstract: A borescope is received within a housing. The borescope includes a flexible end portion carrying the video head and a housing includes a flexible end portion comprised of ball-socket segments and a tip for following the movement of the flexible end portion of the borescope. Cooling air is provided in an annular passage between the borescope and housing for flow about the borescope to maintain the video head temperature below its temperature limitation. Two cables maintain the ball-socket segments and tip in contact with a transition piece and with one another to enable the flexible borescope end portion to follow the movement of the directionally controlled video head.

    Abstract: Automated inspection assemblies for scanning pipes of a nuclear reactor are described. In one embodiment, the assembly includes a mounting subassembly and a scanning subassembly. The mounting subassembly includes a clamp configured to be mounted to selected pipes in a nuclear reactor pressure vessel, and the scanning subassembly is movably coupled to the mounting subassembly. The scanning assembly includes a scanning head configured to scan at least a portion of the circumference of the pipe to be inspected, and the scanning head includes a substantially “U” shaped transducer support assembly sized to receive the pipe. Transducer elements are coupled to the transducer support assembly legs, and the transducer support assembly is configured to rotate about the pipe to inspect the pipe.

    Abstract: A miniature air gap inspection device permits in-situ inspection of a generator field and stator core having entrance gaps as little as 0.5" and larger. The inspection device passes through a radial air gap between a core iron and a retaining ring of the generator, and thus, removal of the generator field is not necessary. The device includes a tractor section having a tractor frame attachable to the retaining ring for selective circumferential positioning about the field. A mast section is coupled with the tractor frame and includes an extendible mast. An inspection head is attached to the extendible mast and is axially extended and retracted in the gap by the mast. The inspection head supports at least one inspection tool for performing the in-situ generator inspections.

    Abstract: A pneumatic jacking device is used to measure radial movement of stator bars in their slots while the generator is in-situ. The jacking device is designed to pass through the radial gap between the field retaining ring and stator end winding, requiring a minimum entrance gap of 2.625". The device is placed between the retaining ring and the stator bar, and radial movement is measured by the application of a force such as by a pneumatic ram or the like. Radial movement is measured by a linear voltage displacement transducer and is transmitted to a measuring unit for further processing.

The means for applying the coating may take several forms: (1) a multilayered tape system having impregnated in or carrying an antifoulant and having a water soluble intermediate layer; (2) a sponge like layer containing impregnated antifoulant paint or coating liquid which can be squeezed therefrom onto the hull; (3) a sponge having mixed therein microspheres of resin and pigment and microspheres of activator material such that when the microspheres are crushed, the pigmented resin, which may also contain an antifoulant, and the activator are mixed and cured to form a coating on the hull. The preferred means and method for applying the coating, is to mount the tape system on the dock blocks in a dry dock before the dry dock is flooded to admit the ship, and by the settling then activate the coating the ship onto the blocks as the water is withdrawn from the dry dock.
