  • Patent number: 7443288
Abstract: A tire and suspension monitoring and warning system consisting of a set of multi-function sensors that monitor and warn of a failure mode. The system monitors and warns for tire imbalance, tire tread wear, and shock absorbers for a tire attached to a vehicle. The monitoring and warning system includes one axial, radial, and lateral acceleration measurement of the wheel to provide acceleration signal sample power. For tire imbalance, signal sample power in the second harmonic of the tire rotational frequency is compared to that of the first harmonic. For tire tread wear, average signal sample power within a second frequency range is compared to a previously stored baseline value. For shock absorber performance, a sum of all frequency components in a second predetermined frequency range is compared to a baseline value.

  • Patent number: 6396866
Abstract: A method of acquiring a communications signal is provided. The method includes the steps of storing a forward chirp sync segment (106) of an auto-correlating forward chirp sync (102) and storing a reverse chirp sync segment (108) of a symmetric auto-correlating reverse chirp sync (104). A header comprising of either a forward chirp sync FCS (102) or a reverse chirp sync RCS (104), a predetermined number of data blocks comprising a data frame (308), and the symmetric auto-correlating trailer is received. The header, the data blocks, and the symmetric trailer are susceptible to frequency error. The method correlates the FCS segment (106) with the auto-correlating FCS (102) to provide a FCS correlation signal (312) and correlates the RCS segment (104) with the auto-correlating RCS (108) to provide a RCS correlation signal (314). The method determines the frequency error, symbol timing, and frame timing based upon the FCS correlation signal (312) and the RCS correlation signal (314).

  • Patent number: 5823774
Abstract: A device is disclosed that dynamically seals the collet of a high-speed surgical or dental drill from the ingress of contaminating substances with which the tool or collet of the drill comes into contact, such as blood, saliva, saline, tissue, bone chips, and tooth particles. The dynamic seal comprises an impeller and a bearing that rotatably supports both the impeller and a surgical tool; furthermore, the seal may be disposed within a burguard that is mounted on the distal end of a surgical drill. The spinning impeller has a disc portion that imparts a centrifugal force to the flow of contaminating substances and thereby pumps the flow entering through the tool opening radially outward through discharge holes in the burguard housing. The dynamic seal further includes an O-ring for sealing against the tool shaft and blocking the contaminating substances from continuing up the tool bore and into the collet of the surgical drill. A backring retains the O-ring in place.

  • Patent number: 4553575
Abstract: A dowel cutting method and apparatus comprising a stationary cutting tool having an internal bore and at least one cutting edge at its input end into which woodstock is disposed while being rotated by an electric hand drill or the like to create a finished dowel at the opposite end of the cutting tool. The cutting tool may be held in a bench vise. A sizer for dowels is also disclosed comprising a series of holes in a flat metal plate having a ground side which cuts down a dowel in a sequence of operations, if needed, to an accurate smaller dowel. A simple final sanding operation is also disclosed utilizing sandpaper and the sizing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4204168
Abstract: A signal converter, and more particularly, a mixer includes a quad diode race or bridge having a first signal supplied to a first pair of input ports in a balanced state, and a second signal supplied to another pair of input ports in an unbalanced state. The unbalanced connection to the diode race is effected via connections to conducting strips of a printed circuit board, and the balanced connection is effected by a hybrid balun element. The output from the circuit is derived from an input to the balun, at a low signal level.
