  • Patent number: 6203648
Abstract: The invention consists of bonding a strip of pile fabric to a plastic tube which is mounted over a mandrel, by an adhesive substance. The adhesive substance may take many forms, and heat derived from a multitude of heat sources, such as infra red, radio frequency, open flame, quartz, induction, ultrasonic or a plasma jet may be used to ensure a good bond between the plastic tube and the pile fabric.

  • Patent number: 6170114
Abstract: A liquid coating applicator includes a support of a pad coupled to the support. The pad has a front side, a rear side and a lower arcuate convex surface between the front side and the rear side to spread coatings. Preferably, the support has at least one pad engaging surface configured to engage the pad and to support the pad in the arcuate convex cross-sectional shape. Preferably, the pad includes a backing configured for being removably coupled to the support, a substrate having a front arcuate side, a rear arcuate side and a lower surface between the front and rear sides and a flocking material coupled to the substrate. The backing and the substrate have the arcuate convex shape upon being coupled to the support.

  • Patent number: 6101658
Abstract: A liquid coating applicator for use with a plurality of adjacent basins separated by a partition includes a support having a handle portion, a first liquid applying medium coupled to the support and having a first applicating surface extending in a plane and a second liquid applying medium coupled to the support and having a second applicating surface extending in the plane. The first and second liquid applying mediums are spaced from one another so as to form a slot therebetween. The slot is configured to receive the partition such that the first and second applicating surfaces of the first and second mediums may be simultaneously received within the first and second basins to load the first and second mediums with different liquid coatings.

  • Patent number: 5996166
Abstract: A surface decorating roller cover includes a first substrate portion adapted for being rotatably supported about an axis, a second substrate portion axially spaced from the first substrate portion and adapted for being rotatably supported about the axis and a plurality of flexible strips. Each strip has a first end, a second end and an intermediate portion between the first and second ends. Only the first and second ends are affixed to the first and second substrate portions, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5966772
Abstract: A paint supply and finishing system includes a tray and a paint roller. The tray includes a floor, a plurality of upstanding walls extending from the floor to form a basin and a partitioning wall configured for being removably positioned within the basin to create first and second pans within the basin configured for receiving roller covers. The pans preferably include at least one paint metering medium. The paint roller includes a handle, a continuous elongate shaft coupled to the handle, a first roller cover rotatably supported about the shaft and a second roller cover rotatably supported about the shaft. The first and second roller covers are axially spaced from one another so as to independently rotate relative to one another and so as to be simultaneously positionable within the first and second pans.

  • Patent number: 5397414
Abstract: The invention consists of applying a thermosetting adhesive in a molten state to an area where a strip of pile fabric is wound onto a plastic tube which is mounted over a rotating roller. The molten thermosetting adhesive is applied by a nozzle connected to a reservoir where the thermosetting adhesive is heated. After application, the adhesive, the strip of pile fabric and the plastic tube are joined together, forming a structurally integral paint roller body.

  • Patent number: 5339484
Abstract: A closed-end roller cover in which the pile fabric on the end, and the portion of the core to which it is secured, is integral with the main body of the cover, and a method of manufacture thereof. The cover is formed by heating the end portion of a fabric covered blank a short distance at the end, preferably along parallel lines so as to form structural lines of weakness, and immediately thereafter crimping the still pliable end portion inwardly upon itself to form a solid end wall with adhering pile fabric.
