    Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed wherein a first structure in a memory of a controller for sharing information is defined and a hidden structure containing control information for sharing information with the first defined structure is created. Data is synchronized between controllers so that firmware development is simplified. The user defines a structure and through the use of macro calls makes that structure shared. Lock rules are provided, to perform synchronization and buffer management. Failover and failback are also addressed to provide a comprehensive solution for sharing work and information between controllers. Accordingly, the emulated shared memory mechanism allows a programmer to define a structure that contains information for sharing without having to reinvent firmware when new features are added to a storage controller.

    Abstract: The invention implements a method for enabling overlapped performance of data processing actions during data transfers between a DSS and a host processor. The DSS includes a state queue which holds a plurality of states, each state comprising a self-contained procedure which, upon execution, determines a readiness to execute of an associated task. The method initially determines an amount of available time during a data transfer wherein a front-end processor of the DSS would otherwise be idle. The method then causes the front-end processor to extract and execute a first state from the state queue during the data transfer, if available time during the data transfer exceeds or is equal to an estimated execution time of the first state. Then, if a task associated with the first state is found to be ready to execute, that task is listed on a task work queue for execution subsequent to the data transfer.

    Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus has a cam (9) actuated reciprocable plunger (13) housed in a bore (11) into which fuel flows from a fuel supply (7,14). An outlet (12) extends from a pumping chamber (13A) defined by the plunger and bore. A spill passage (19) communicates the pumping chamber with a spill valve (16) so that fuel from the pumping chamber which flows through the passage and spill valve (20) flows into a cylinder (21) containing a resiliently biased piston (17). The fuel which flows into the cylinder is returned to the pumping chamber during outward movement of the plunger and the fuel supply (14,7) ensures that the pumping chamber is completely filled with fuel. A safety valve (30,31) allows fuel to escape from the cylinder (21) in the event that the piston (17) sticks in the cylinder.

    Abstract: A rotary distributor type fuel pumping apparatus has an annular cam ring having internal cam lobes which impart inward movement to a pumping plunger as the distributor member is rotated. A piston is movable in a cylinder to vary the angular setting of the cam ring and the piston is coupled to the cam ring by means of a member having a gear tooth profile which is located in a recess in the piston. The member is integrally formed with a mounting having a pair of oppositely extending arms which are individually secured against mutually inclined flats on the periphery of the cam ring.

    Abstract: A rotary distributor type fuel pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine has a distributor member an enlarged portion of which is formed with a transverse bore in which is mounted a pair of pumping plungers and blind bores located in side by side relationship with the transverse bores, the blind bores are located between the transverse bore and a body which supports the distributor member for rotation. The blind bores are in communication with drillings which lie in a plane containing the axes of the transverse bore and the blind bores and which extend from the end of the distributor member. The drillings interset the transverse bore that the ends of the drillings opening into the transverse bore are sealed by the pumping plungers.

    Abstract: A rotary distributor fuel pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine has a pair of pumping plungers housed in a diametrical bore formed in the distributor member. The plungers at a predetermined position during their inward movement open a spill path to terminate delivery of fuel through an outlet. The one plunger defines a plunger bore and the other plunger has an integral piston slidable therein. The piston has a relieved portion adjacent the other plunger which with the wall of the plunger bore forms a flow path from the pumping chamber the flow path communicating with a port at a predetermined position during the inward movement. The pumping chamber is of annular form and is defined between the plungers and the wall of the bore in the distributor member and the piston.

    Abstract: A fuel pumping apparatus of the rotary distributor type includes an accumulator volume into which fuel can be spilled to terminate delivery of fuel by the apparatus. The accumulator is defined by a movable member in the form of a sleeve which is slidable on an extension of the distributor member and has a closed end. The extension defines a seating with which can be engaged by a valve element defined by the sleeve. The extension and sleeve define an annular space connected to the pumping chamber of the apparatus and mechanical means is provided to effect initial movement of the sleeve against the action of a spring to lift the valve element from the seating to allow fuel flow into the accumulator volume.

A valve is provided which at a predetermined position during the inward movement of the plunger, is opened to lower the pressure in the bore and thereby to terminate fuel flow through an outlet. The valve is actuated by the cam lobes either from the cam follower or from the plunger.

The plunger is returned following fuel delivery by a return mechanism including two levers one of which carries a roller engaging the cam and the other of which engages the plunger. An adjustment shoe is carried by the one lever and is engaged by the other lever to enable adjustment of the backlash in the mechanism.

    Abstract: A liquid fuel injection pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes, a high pressure injection pump, an electrically operated spill valve which when open during a delivery stroke of the injection pump allows fuel to flow to a drain. The apparatus includes a control valve operable to control fuel flow through passage means to the injection pump, the control valve having three positions in the first of which there is unrestricted flow of fuel, in the second of which there is restricted fuel flow and in the third of which fuel flow is prevented. An angularly movable shaft is provided to close the spill valve and the control valve is connected to a shaft. The shafts exterior of the apparatus are connected to mechanisms whereby when the control valve is moved from the first position to the second position the spill valve will be closed thereby to allow the apparatus to supply fuel at a restricted rate.

The current flow to the solenoid is controlled by a control circuit mounted on circuit boards located within an inner casing secured to the body. An outer casing surrounds the inner casing and defines a space which is connected with a fuel inlet, the space communicating with a fuel inlet of the pump. The flow of fuel through the space assists the cooling of the components of the control circuit.
