    Abstract: A method and apparatus for assembling a multiple component article such as an optical fiber connector and inspecting assembled multiple component articles. The method includes a step of positioning an elongated body with one free end being exposed, positioning a biasing component over the exposed end, positioning a coupling nut over the exposed end and abutting the biasing component, and applying a retaining component to the elongated body to retain the biasing component in a compressed state between the elongated body and the coupling nut. The apparatus includes a fixture or nest for retaining an elongated body of the connector in a selected orientation.
