  • Patent number: 7484404
Abstract: A liquid gas vaporization and measurement system, and associated method, for efficiently vaporizing a continuous sample of liquid gas, such as liquid natural gas (LNG), and accurately determining the constituent components of the gas. A constant flow of liquid gas sampled from a mass storage device is maintained in a vaporizing device. Within the vaporizing device the liquid gas is flash vaporized within heated narrow tubing. The liquid gas is converted to vapor very quickly as it enters one or more independently operating vaporizer stages within the vaporizing device. The vapor gas is provided to a measuring instrument such as a chromatograph and the individual constituent components and the BTU value of the gas are determined to an accuracy of within +/?0.5 mole percent and 1 BTU, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20080313583
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided in which a previously verified SoC is coupled to a SoC under test via a communication bus or other type of communication interface. The previously verified SoC is provided with the same test stimuli as the SoC under test and thus, generates expected test results data. The test stimuli are sent to the SoC under test via a peripheral communication interface between the previously verified SoC and the SOC under test. The SoC under test generates actual test result data that is output to the previously verified SoC. The previously verified SoC may then compare the expected test results data with the actual test result data generated by the SoC under test to determine if they match. If the two sets of data do not match, then a mismatch notification may be generated and output.

  • Patent number: 7382952
Abstract: The invention relates to an optical fiber polarizer comprising an optical fiber with at least a core, a cladding and surrounding medium (or outer cladding) where one or more sections of the optical fiber include periodic/aperiodic (chirped, quasi-periodic) modulation of the dielectric properties of the fiber in the direction of propagation of the light (the longitudinal axis of the fiber). The modulation of the dielectric properties of the fiber is such that it introduces periodic/aperiodic birefringence along the direction of propagation of the light, such a modulation usually but not necessarily being confined to the vicinity of the core region of the fiber. Means are included to attenuate preferentially some of the modes of propagation of the fiber, specifically modes of one principal state of polarization and not the orthogonal state of polarization.

  • Patent number: 7295731
Abstract: The present invention is directed to the creation of optical waveguiding devices from standard optical fibers by the creation of zones of permanently altered refractive index characteristics therein. A high intensity femtosecond laser beam is focused at a predetermined target region in the fiber so as to soften the glass material at the target region. After aligning the focal region with the target region in the fiber there will be relative movement between the focal region and the fiber, which has the effect of sweeping the focal region across the fiber in a predetermined path, so as to create a secondary waveguide path. A portion of the light traveling along the core is removed from the core along the secondary waveguide path such that the device can be utilized as an attenuator, an optical tap, or a polarimeter.
