  • Publication number: 20230364424
Abstract: Disclosed examples include monitoring consumption behavior of a recipient of a sensory prosthesis (e.g., a cochlear implant). The sensory prosthesis identifies specific sounds (e.g., the sounds of vomiting, snoring, opening a beer bottle, lighting a cigarette, or taking medication from a blister, among others) or visuals and record data regarding the frequency, timing, intensity, or other characteristics of the behavior. The recorded data can then be analyzed by the recipient or caregivers. The sensory prosthesis further adjusts its sensory output to enhance, degrade, or otherwise modify the recipient's perception of the consumption behavior.

  • Publication number: 20230370793
Abstract: An example apparatus includes a bone fixture, an active implant, a percutaneous abutment, and an external device. The percutaneous abutment electrically connects the external device with the active implant, such as for the transmission of power or data. In some examples, the percutaneous abutment itself includes one or more microphones, antennas or other components that provide functionality to the active implant. Data obtained from one or both of the external device and the percutanous abutment can be used to cause the active implant to perform a function, such as actuating a bone conduction vibratory actuator.

  • Publication number: 20230283966
Abstract: Presented herein are techniques for adapting settings/operations of a remote microphone device associated with an auditory prosthesis based on a desired/preferred listening direction of a recipient of the auditory prosthesis. More specifically, an auditory prosthesis worn by a recipient and a remote microphone device, which are configured to wirelessly communicate with one another, are both positioned in the same spatial area. At least one of a recipient-specified (e.g., recipient-preferred) region of interest within the spatial area, or a recipient-specified listening direction, is determined. Based on a determined relative positioning (e.g., location and orientation) of the remote microphone device and the auditory prosthesis, operation of the remote microphone device is dynamically adapted so that the remote microphone device can focus on (e.g., have increased sensitivity to) sounds originating from the recipient-specified region of interest/listening direction.

  • Publication number: 20230238127
Abstract: Examples disclosed herein are relevant to selectively bypassing a verification stage in controlling a device based on a received command. Verification can be bypassed when certain conditions are met, such as the occurrence of one or more scenarios. Disclosed techniques can be applied to any of a variety of devices, such as those that use a verification stage in addition to a command stage.

  • Publication number: 20230145143
Abstract: A method performed by an electronic controller includes determining a charge level of a power supply configured to provide power to a medical device, and estimating, based on the charge level of the power supply, a first power supply life for operating the medical device according to a first mode. Further, the method includes estimating, based on the charge level of the power supply, a second power supply life for operating the medical device according to a second mode. As recited, operating the medical device according to the first mode has a different power use or consumption characteristic from operating the medical device according to the second mode. The method also includes generating a notification indicative of the first power supply life and the second power supply life.
