  • Publication number: 20090249363
Abstract: An improved hold-off algorithm that assures that all data associated with all trigger events in a data signal are displayed uses a designated interval starting with a first trigger event to determine whether any subsequent trigger events occurred within the designated interval. A first display frame is drawn based upon the first trigger event. A next display frame is drawn based either on a next trigger event that occurs outside the designated interval, or based on the last trigger event that occurred within the designated interval. In the latter case the two display frames provide an overlap to assure that no data related to the trigger events is lost on the display.

  • Publication number: 20090228226
Abstract: Pre-trigger and post-trigger acquisition for a no dead time acquisition system, where the data being displayed does not include a related trigger event, has a variable record length buffer having a maximum record length equal to a maximum desired pre-trigger interval, and has a trigger FIFO and timer for delaying the related trigger event. The record length of the buffer is determined by the desired pre-trigger interval, and fast rasterizers access the oldest data that encompasses the desired pre-trigger data. A first trigger event in the trigger signal may be delayed by a desired post-trigger interval before the fast rasterizers begin drawing the waveform data that encompasses the desired post-trigger data.

  • Patent number: 7532492
Abstract: An accessory device voltage management system includes an accessory device selectively coupled to a host. The host provides a bulk power supply and a low power supply voltage to the accessory device. The host receives accessory device parameters from the device and determines if the accessory device is a valid and supported device and, if so, sends commands to the accessory device to couple the bulk power supply voltage to a power supply circuit in the accessory device. The power supply circuit in the accessory device generates at least a first regulated voltage output.

  • Publication number: 20080192071
Abstract: A method of automatically grouping channels for display uses a pair of multipurpose knobs, one assigned for selection and the other assigned for movement. A channel or a grouping of channels that forms a “virtual group” may be selected from a menu or from a display by the selection knob. The selected channel or virtual group may then be moved to another position on the display by the movement knob. If the movement of the selected channel or virtual group is stopped in proximity to another channel or virtual group, a new virtual group automatically is formed. If movement of the selected channel or virtual group is stopped between proximate channels or within another virtual group, the selected channel or virtual group is inserted automatically between the proximate channels or within the other virtual group to form a new virtual group.

  • Publication number: 20080177508
Abstract: A noise rejection filter for a trigger circuit uses an algorithm that updates the filter output monotonically so long as the signal slope remains unchanged, maintains the filter output at a constant level when the signal slope changes but the difference between the sample value and the filter output is less than or equal to a hysteresis value, and changes the signal slope while updating the filter output when the difference is greater than the hysteresis value. This maintains the peaks of the input signal at the filter output. The noise rejection filter may be used in a trigger circuit prior to a comparator so that the trigger signal from the comparator accurately reflects the signal pulse width at a desired trigger level and trigger events are detected when the desired trigger level is near the peaks of the input signal.

  • Patent number: 7366628
Abstract: A test and measurement Instrument samples an input digital logic signal to produce logic samples, compresses the logic samples into compression codes, and stores the compression codes into acquisition memory. Compression includes parsing the logic samples into groups and assigning compression codes to those groups, and is performed so as not to lose information about the input digital logic signal's activity. The instrument converts the stored compression codes into a waveform image in display memory and displays the stored waveform image on a display device.

  • Patent number: 7359810
Abstract: A method of characterizing a newly acquired waveform with respect to previously acquired waveforms during monitoring of a generally repetitive signal, where the previously acquired waveforms have been rasterized into a two-dimensional array of memory locations, reads history values for those memory locations associated with an active portion of the newly acquired waveform, compares the history values with history value ranges, increments a count for one of a plurality of recent pixel counters corresponding to the history value ranges, each counter having a different history value range, and modifies the history values in the memory locations. From the counts accumulated for each of the history value ranges the variability of the newly acquired waveform from the generally repetitive signal is determined.

  • Patent number: 7152006
Abstract: A multi-instrument triggering system includes in each instrument trigger system a system ready line for coupling an internal ready signal to an external port. A multi-instrument trigger bus cable connects the external ports, trigger event outputs and trigger event inputs of multiple instruments together in such a way as to enable the trigger generators in the instruments when all instruments are ready to receive a trigger event. When enabled, a coordinated trigger is generated in response to an internal trigger event from at one of the instruments. The coordinated trigger is coupled via the multi-instrument trigger bus cable as the trigger event to trigger all instruments in synchronism.

  • Publication number: 20030218612
Abstract: A dual timebase feature for digital storage oscilloscope includes an A/D converter for producing digital samples of a signal under test. The digital samples are applied to a first decimator for decimating the samples. A second decimator coupled to the output of the first decimator further decimates the samples. A pair of gates selectively couples the outputs of the first and second decimators to a memory. A controller controls one gate to select a high data rate record having a length shorter than an entire data record for storage in memory and for display as a zoom (i.e. detailed) record, and controls the other gate to select a low data rate record encompassing substantially all of said entire data record, for display as an overview record. The subject apparatus produces two data records of different data rates and encompassing different time periods.
