  • Patent number: 7667701
Abstract: A system for displaying a tree map visualization including a processor, a memory device, and program code resident in the memory device. The program code is executable by the processor to prioritize data in a data set so as to associate a priority with respective elements of the data in the data set, to predefine a pattern that reflects a desired display pattern for the associated priority of the elements of the data in the data set, to generate the tree map visualization that positions within a display space, and to display the tree map visualization on a display device.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: February 23, 2010
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation

  • Patent number: 7429987
Abstract: Displaying data from a data set in a tree map visualization is provided by prioritizing the data in the data set so as to associate a priority with respective elements of the data in the data set. A tree map visualization is generated based on the data set where a location of bounding boxes in the tree map is based on the priority associated with the corresponding element. Tree maps having locations of bounding boxes that are based on a priority associated with the bounding boxes are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7287234
Abstract: Data from a data set is displayed as a tree map visualization by identifying data elements in the data set to be highlighted and generating a tree map visualization based on the data set where a location of bounding boxes corresponding to the identified data elements have greater color saturation in comparison to other bounding boxes.

  • Publication number: 20060015846
Abstract: The present invention provides portal friendly user interface widgets that can detect environmental factors in a portal page and automatically adjust the markup they produce based on the detected environmental factors. Each portal friendly widget comprises: a system for detecting at least one environmental factor in a portal page; and a system for automatically adjusting markup produced by the portal friendly widget based on the at least one detected environmental factor.

  • Publication number: 20050257167
Abstract: A modal dialog is embedded within a Web application page. Because the dialog interface is presented within the current user interface component, the user does not lose the context for the information required for the dialog. The dialog interface is presented directly inline with the rest of the user interface on the page.

  • Patent number: 6963339
Abstract: Data from a first data set utilized in generating a first tree map visualization is displayed by filtering the first data set so as to provide a second data set having a reduced amount of data relative to the first data set. A second tree map visualization is generated based on the second data set.

  • Publication number: 20050216499
Abstract: Multiple entries in a table are selected or deselected by designating a particular data field of a first entry. The selection state of other entries, the content of whose corresponding data field matches that of the first entry, is toggled. The data field may be designated by selecting a data field designation glyph in a web interface, by mouse-selecting a data field with a unique keyboard and/or mouse input, or by directing the table focus to a data field and entering a unique keyboard and/or mouse input. The desired entries need not be contiguous, and need not be visibly displayed in the table.

  • Publication number: 20050168436
Abstract: An audible indicator such as an audio tone is associated with the importance of data elements displayed on a visual display screen of data processing apparatus such as a personal computer or work station. At least one characteristic of the audible indicator, for example its pitch or frequence of a tone, is associated with the importance of the data elements. When a user selects a particular date element on the screen, for example using a computer mouse, the audible indicator conveys the importance of the selected data element to the user. This enables visually impaired users to readily locate important data elements on a display screen without reading the entire screen using a screen reader.
