Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for communicating with a subset of nodes. A node filter is generated representing a set of transmission preferences of at least one node in a set of nodes. The node filter for each node is stored either at the node, or at a central server located remotely from the node. A communication abstract is generated representing the target audience, a subset of nodes, for a communication. The communication abstract and communication are transmitted to the nodes, and the communication abstract is compared to each node filter. Based on the comparison, a determination is made whether to display the communication at the node.
