  • Publication number: 20070151384
Abstract: A shift rail for a vehicle transmission includes multiple detent mechanisms for shifting that operate independently from each other. The shift rail includes a neutral detent mechanism that allows shifting from a neutral position into a gear engaged position at a first detent force, and an in-gear detent mechanism that allows shifting out of a gear engaged position at a second detent force that is greater than the first detent force. By setting the second detent force higher than the first detent force, un-requested shifts out of the gear engaged position, i.e. “jumpout,” can be controlled. Additionally, the neutral and in-gear detent mechanisms include separate springs where spring forces can be varied to adjust shift feel as needed.

  • Publication number: 20060230861
Abstract: A vehicle transmission includes a plurality of shift shafts that cooperate with a cornmon neutral switch to control when range shifts occur. In one example, the plurality of shift shafts includes a first shift shaft, a second shift shaft, and a third shift shaft that is positioned between the first and second shift shafts. A plunger actuates the neutral switch in response to movement of the third shift shaft along an axis. A first switch pin is positioned between the first shift shaft and the plunger and a second switch pin is positioned between the second shift shaft and the plunger. The first and second switch pins move the plunger to actuate the neutral switch in response to axial movement of a respective one of the first and second shift shafts. Thus, each of the first, second, and third shifts shafts can actuate a single neutral switch by cooperating with a common plunger.

  • Publication number: 20060223644
Abstract: A transmission includes an input shaft having an internal bore at one shaft end and a main shaft having an extension formed at one shaft end that is received within the internal bore. The internal bore is defined by an inner peripheral surface and the extension is defined by an outer peripheral surface that is spaced apart from the inner peripheral surface. A resilient member is positioned within the internal bore and reacts between the inner and the outer peripheral surfaces to center the main shaft and the input shaft relative to each other.

  • Publication number: 20060037831
Abstract: A clutch release assembly includes a release fork with a counterbalance portion that causes the release fork to pivot into an assembly position. During assembly, the release fork is pivoted from the assembly position into an operating position. The release fork is mounted on a shaft, which is supported on a clutch housing. The release fork includes a center boss portion with an opening that receives the shaft. The release fork includes tines that extend outwardly from the center boss portion. The tines are positioned to engage a pair of release bearing pads when the release fork is in the operating position. The counterbalance portion holds the release fork in the assembly position. During the assembly, the tines are slid underneath the release bearing pads and then are pivoted into the operating position.
