  • Publication number: 20120209403
Abstract: The present invention relates to improved methods for tissue engineering including tissue transplantation, augmentation and regeneration, and more particularly, a method for the generation of donor vascularized tissue suitable for use in tissue transplantation, augmentation and/or repair. The present invention enables the use of a support matrix in the generation of an anatomical construct comprising the donor vascular tissue. The support matrix may be devised such that it has dimensions of a size and shape adapted to simulate those of tissue to be transplanted, augmented and/or repaired. The methods and support matrix of the present invention may also find application as a means for delivering a desirable gene product to a subject. The method and support matrix of the present invention is conveniently made available in the form of a kit, for use in the field of tissue engineering.

  • Patent number: 6211930
Abstract: Variable viewing angle liquid crystal display screen systems are disclosed. They are useful, e.g. in automatic teller machines where, during parts of a transaction with a user, it is undesirable that information on screen can be read by others. In accordance with the invention, interposed in a conventional display arrangement of reflector (2), backlight (1), diffuser (3), optional brightness enhancer (4, 5) and transmission type screen (6) are a collimator (10) and a variable diffuser (11). If the variable diffuser (11) is set to transparent, the light passing through the transmission type screen (6) is still collimated and accordingly the display on the screen is only effectively visible over a narrow viewing angle. If the diffuser (11) is set to diffuse the collimated light, then the display is visible over a very wide range of angles.

  • Patent number: 5825436
Abstract: A display includes a display screen for displaying information. A liquid crystal display (LCD) panel adjoins the display screen. The LCD panel is controlled to selectively define a viewing angle within which a selectable portion of the display screen is viewable through the LCD panel. The LCD panel includes a plurality of energizable segments which, when energized, are transparent to allow the selectable portion of the display screen to be viewed. Each of the plurality of energizable segments is selectively energizable to selectively enable corresponding portions of the display screen to be viewed.

  • Patent number: 4160496
Abstract: A foldable item of hand baggage comprises a body portion and a lid comprising a top portion and a side wall region, zip fastener means being provided at the free edge of the side wall portion and an adjacent part of the body portion for closing the hand baggage. Two types of reinforcement for imparting rigidity to the assembled hand baggage are provided. Inner rigid elements are provided in each of the lateral walls, being held to the rest of the body portion in a manner allowing them to be moved towards one of the front and rear walls when the item of hand baggage is to be folded.
