  • Patent number: 5010301
Abstract: A method for determining at wellsites the swelling-clay content of cement mixtures by high-frequency dielectric measurements including: grinding a cement mix sample to a size suitable for testing; washing the cement mix sample with a fluid having a water activity substantially less than water, which may contain a soluble cation; packing the washed cement mix sample into a sample cell suitable for dielectric measurement; measuring the dielectric constant at a preselected frequency; and comparing the measured dielectric constant of the cement mix sample to calibration curves.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 22, 1989
Date of Patent: April 23, 1991
    Assignee: Exxon Production Research Company
Inventors: Peter K. Leung, Ronald P. Steiger, Kenneth R. Kunze
  • Patent number: 4648456
Abstract: A method for improving the permeability in a subterranean formation by acid treatment is disclosed. In this method, an aqueous acidizing solution containing hydrofluoric acid and excess fluoride is injected into the formation. The acidizing solution dissolves siliceous materials and reduces precipitation of dissolved species from the spent acidizing solution. Further, the acidizing solution has lower acidity than presently employed acidizing solutions and thus a reduced tendency to corrode wellbore tubing and equipment.
