  • Publication number: 20030234003
Abstract: A mechanical oscillator for attenuating pressure waves formed in a rail having a volume of fluid therein includes a rigid enclosed fluid cavity having a selected volume, the volume communicating with the rail actuating fluid though an orifice having a select volume for containing actuating fluid, the orifice having an aperture in fluid communication with the actuating fluid selected such that when an pressure wave impinges on the aperture of the orifice, the motion of the actuating fluid in the volume of the orifice is set to vibrating, the vibrating acting to excite the actuating fluid within the enclosed volume, a resulting amplified motion of the actuating fluid in the orifice, due to phase cancellation between the actuating fluid in the volume of the orifice and the actuating fluid volume in the enclosed cavity, causing energy absorption of the pressure wave due to frictional drag in and around the orifice. An pressure wave attenuator and a method of attenuation are also included.

  • Publication number: 20030205216
Abstract: A wire guide (101) is disposable on a device such as a fuel injector (103). The wire guide (101) includes a channel (215) having one or more intermittently spaced fingers (213) along an open side of the channel (215). The fingers (213) may allow wires (205, 207) to enter the channel (215) easily, but inhibit the ability of the wires (205, 207) to leave the channel (215) once they enter. The channel (215) comprises an inner wall (301) that at least partially follows an outer contour of a device such as a fuel injector (103). One or more retaining members (219, 221) are included with the wire guide (101), such that the wire guide (101) is securable to the device, such as a fuel injector (103).

  • Patent number: 6637781
Abstract: A coupling assembly for coupling fluid components includes a female coupler having a receiver defined therein. A male coupler has an insert, the insert being receivable within the female coupler receiver in sealing engagement. And, a spacer is matable to both the female coupler and the male coupler when the female coupler and the male coupler are in sealing engagement, the spacer effecting positive engagement of the female and the male couplers. A method of coupling/uncoupling a coupling assembly is also included.

  • Patent number: 6584949
Abstract: There is provided a wire guide for guiding and protecting wires from moving parts underneath the valve cover in a diesel engine. The wire guide has a channel portion connected to a base for securing the wire guide to the cylinder head. The base may be comprised of a retaining clip having two prongs that form an assembly that “snaps-on” to an injector clamp holder to secure the wire guide to the cylinder head. The channel portion is configured to cross a rocker arm when the wire guide is mounted on the cylinder head. The channel portion creates a conduit for holding the wires. The conduit is partially closed on at least one side and has an open side with intermittently spaced retaining tabs. The retaining tabs may be intermittently spaced as a series of pair tabs or alternating opposing singular tabs.

  • Publication number: 20030024082
Abstract: A spring clip for retaining an electrical connector in coupled engagement with a fuel injector includes a unitary spring clip component having a retainer assembly, a lever assembly operably coupled to the retainer assembly, and a fulcrum assembly operably coupled to the lever assembly. A method of disengaging a spring clip from engagement with a fuel injector, the spring clip retaining an electrical connector in coupled engagement with the fuel injector is also included.

  • Patent number: 6467457
Abstract: A connector assembly and the actuating system including the connector assembly, the connector assembly for fluidly coupling an actuating fluid rail to a fuel injector, the actuating fluid rail conveying a quantity of actuating fluid, the fuel injector having an actuating fluid inlet, the connector assembly includes a check valve operably disposed in a connecting member for controlling the flow of actuating fluid between the actuating fluid rail and the fuel injector. The connecting member has a fluid passageway defined therein, the fluid passageway being in fluid communication with the actuating fluid rail and the fuel injector actuating fluid inlet. A method of minimizing negative pressure effects caused by operation of a fuel injector on the actuating fluid in an actuating fluid rail and a method of providing a high pressure actuating fluid flow from a high pressure pump to a plurality of fuel injectors of a diesel engine are further included.

  • Patent number: 6374805
Abstract: A fluid delivery system for delivering a supply of a fluid from a fluid source to at least one fuel injector includes a rail for conveying a fluid and being positionable proximate the fuel injector. The rail has a fluid passageway defined therein, the fluid passageway being in fluid communication with the source of fluid. A connector is in fluid communication with both the rail and with the fuel injector for fluidly connecting the rail to the fuel injector. The connector is universally shiftable in three orthogonal axes for accommodating static tolerances existing between the rail and the fuel injector and for accommodating dynamic relative motion between the rail and the fuel injector.

The rail has a fluid passageway defined therein, the fluid passageway being in fluid communication with the source of fluid. A connector is in fluid communication with both the rail and with the fuel injector for fluidly connecting the rail to the fuel injector. The connector is universally moveable in three axes for accommodating static tolerances existing between the rail and the fuel injector and for accommodating dynamic relative motion between the rail and the fuel injector such that stresses imposed on the fuel injector resulting from being attached to the rail are substantially eliminated.
