  • Publication number: 20080146502
Abstract: The invention relates generally to a method for modulating the sensation of satiety perception and to agents useful for same. Such agents are useful in modulating, controlling or otherwise affecting inter alia obesity, anorexia, weight maintenance, metabolic energy levels and/or inflammatory conditions in a subject. More particularly, the invention identifies molecules which interact with ion channels thereby modulating the perception of satiety. The invention contemplates, therefore, a method for modulating the perception of gastric distension by the administration of agents which control the activation or inhibition of mechanoreceptors. The invention further provides compositions comprising these agents and methods of treatment using same. In one embodiment, the invention permits modulation of perception of gastric distension by the administration of agents which control the activation of mechanoreceptors associated with mechanical stretch.

  • Publication number: 20060288351
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates bulk lock-unbiasing for objects within an object-based computing system. The system maintains an epoch, which is a field containing a timestamp, for a biasable object class and each instance of the biasable object class. If the epoch for the biasable object class matches the epoch for a specific instance of the biasable object class, the system knows that any bias for that specific instance is currently valid. When the system receives a signal to perform a bulk lock-unbiasing operation for instances of the biasable object class, it responds by stopping all threads in the object-based computing system at a safe point. Then, the system performs a bulk lock-unbiasing operation for unlocked instances of the biasable object class by incrementing the epoch for the biasable object class and by incrementing corresponding epochs for locked instances of the biasable object class.

  • Publication number: 20030054842
Abstract: A method of simultaneously communicating voice and data on the same channel in an analog cordless telephone system involves generating an analog signal from an audible voice signal during a cordless telephone call; generating a frequency shift keying (FSK) signal from digital data having a nominal frequency of about 20 KHz; summing the analog signal and the FSK signal to produce a composite analog and digital signal; modulating a radio frequency (RF) carrier with the composite analog and digital signal to produce a modulated RF carrier; and transmitting the modulated RF carrier.

  • Patent number: 5701502
Abstract: The functions of two virtual operating systems (e.g., S/370 VM and S/88 OS) are merged into one physical system. Partner pairs of S/88 processors run the S/88 OS and handle the fault tolerant and single system image aspects of the system. One or more partner pairs of S/370 processors are coupled to corresponding S/88 processors directly and through the S/88 bus. The S/370 processors are alien to the S/88 Operating System, i.e., not in its configuration tables. Means are provided to isolate partner pairs of S/88 processors from the S/88 Operating System and couple the S/88 processors directly to corresponding pairs of S/370 processors for interaction therewith, transparent to the S/88 Operating System.

  • Patent number: 4726366
Abstract: A lung ventilator is provided that reduces the number of mechanical components and is able to rapidly adjust to provide a selected volume of air or other gas for delivery to a patient's lungs. The ventilator includes a brushless-type DC electric motor having a number of coils that are energized in a predetermined manner to cause reciprocating movement of a piston within a cylinder. The retracted end position of the piston in a cylinder is used to define the volume of air that is to be received by the patient. Three Hall sensors are connected to the motor at predetermined locations and sense the position of the rotor as it rotates due to the energization of the coils. Each of the pulsed outputs from the Hall sensors is out-of-phase relative to the other Hall sensor outputs. The six different binary outputs of the Hall sensors are identified so that a ROM is able to provide a predetermined output for each of the identified Hall sensor combinations inputted to the ROM.

  • Patent number: 4215790
Abstract: A bowl guard for mounting, containing and protecting a plastic or glass bowl of a compressed air system device. The bowl guard holds, protects and retains an opaque, transparent or translucent bowl such as a bowl which encloses a filter or lubricator device. The bowl guard is secured to a header of the device and locks the bowl in a sealed relationship with the header. The guard may have apertures so that the contents of the bowl may be observed. A drain through the bowl and guard can be provided when appropriate. A locking pin on the bowl guard insures that the entire assembly is held in alignment. When the bowl guard is latched into place and the system is under pressure the guard may not easily be withdrawn.
