Patent number: 10643037Abstract: A displacement sensor that includes a stationary printed circuit board which includes a first capacitor pad, an indicator, and a battery electrically communicating with the first capacitor pad and the indicator and a sliding card which includes a second capacitor pad, the first capacitor pad and the second capacitor pad being orientated to face each other and in an overlapping relation to each other. An overlap being defined by the first capacitor pad and the second capacitor pad, wherein the overlap of the first capacitor pad and the second capacitor pad generates a capacitance, the generated capacitance changes as the sliding card moves as a result of a change in the overlap of the first capacitor pad and the second capacitor pad. The indicator is activated when the generated capacitance change reaches a threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2017Date of Patent: May 5, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Matteo Cocchini, Robert K. Mullady, Budy D. Notohardjono, Jacob T. Porter, Kenneth Scea, Robert B. Schlak

Publication number: 20200132746Abstract: Monitoring seating of a cable connector within a socket is provided by associating a seating monitor with the socket. The seating monitor includes an actuator and a detector. The actuator is partially exposed within the socket, and is engaged by the connector and moved from a cable unplugged position to a cable plugged position with seating of the connector within the socket. The detector monitors seating of the connector within the socket based on position of the actuator. The detector includes a fixed member fixedly positioned within the detector, and a slidable member slidable relative to the fixed member. The slidable member is coupled to the actuator to slide with movement of the actuator. The detector circuit generates a signal representative of position of the slidable member relative to the fixed member, and thus, representative of position of the cable connector within the socket.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2018Publication date: April 30, 2020Inventors: Robert K. Publication number: 20160292707Abstract: In an approach to manage parking facility occupancy, a computing device retrieves a customer identification for a customer entering a parking facility and determines whether a customer profile is available for the customer. Upon determining the customer profile is available, the computing device retrieves the customer profile from a database. Additionally, the method includes the computing device determining, based, at least in part, on the customer profile, a customer spending level for the customer. Furthermore, the computing device determines whether an alert is received, the alert indicating a parking facility occupancy level is predicted to attain an alert threshold level. In response to determining the alert is received, the computing device determines a retail incentive for the customer, based, in part, on the customer spending level.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2015Publication date: October 6, 2016Inventors: Sebastien Blandin, Kenneth Scea, Laura Wynter, Sha Sha Yang

Patent number: 9086554Abstract: A dust cover includes a frame shaped to circumscribe an end of a first connector configured to receive a second connector. The connectors can transmit a signal when coupled. A plurality of segments is rotatably coupled to the frame. The frame includes an opening sized to accommodate the second connector. The segments are operable between an open position and closed position. Each segment includes a flexible material and each segment is positioned around the opening and is coupled to the frame at a pivot point. The segments are shaped to cover the opening in the closed position and to expose at least a portion of the opening in the open position. An actuator is rotatably coupled to each segment. Movement of the actuator in a first direction moves the segments to the open position and movement of the actuator in a second direction moves the segments to a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: July 21, 2015Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Kenneth Scea, Sha Sha Yang

Publication number: 20070203716Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for implementing part performance management services is provided. The method includes gathering service data for products. The serviced components of the products are identified in the service data by replacement component part numbers. The method also includes mapping the service data to manufacturing data for products of manufacture by matching at least one data element common to both of the service data and the manufacturing data. The components of the products of manufacture are identified in the manufacturing data by production part numbers. The method further includes identifying which of the products of manufacture have been serviced based upon results of the mapping.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2006Publication date: August 30, 2007Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Michael Bolch, Michael Boraas, Biao Cai, Ghassan Chidiac, Andrew Dubois, Donald Gorman, Eric Lambert, John Maresca, Kenneth Scea, Joseph Torella, Matthew Zemke, Paul Zulpa
