  • Publication number: 20110036851
Abstract: A closure for a container having a top opening bounded by a rim, includes a generally bowl-shaped body with interior and exterior surfaces and a hole formed on one side of the body. Extending about the body is a connecting section including a skirt and this connecting section seals the body to the container. The interior surface defines an interior space into which the container opens during use of the closure. The body is selectively deformable, upon manual manipulation, between an open configuration wherein fluid can pass through the hole and a closed configuration wherein one of the interior surface and the exterior surface of the body is sealed against the hole. In another embodiment, the closure is formed with a protuberance that projects upwardly from the top surface of the closure.

  • Publication number: 20100192460
Abstract: An economical self supporting structure for holding soil or other growing medium above ground level that allows the user to cultivate plants for consumption or decorative purposes. This design is based on the engineering principle that a circular thin wall structure can contain fluid media without external supports. The outward pressure of the growing medium (soil) inside the circular structure holds the walls vertical and round thus enabling a minimum amount of structural material making this garden design less costly and easier to construct than traditional rectangular box structures made from wood or similar straight construction materials. Because stakes or other support systems are not required, the self supporting circular design is superior for soil containment and superior for the many accessories which can be added including bean pole “tee pees”, hoop structure for plant support or tents (bird net, shade net or plastic for frost protection), and irrigation systems.

  • Patent number: 6129301
Abstract: A drive roller for a belt-driven tape cartridge is molded of composite polymeric material in a single step to include outer segment and inner segment integrally formed together with a radial web segment between the outer and inner segments to provide highly concentric operating surfaces on the outer segment and in the inner segment. Electrical conductivity throughout the molded drive roller is provided by including in the composite material a quantity of carbon powder, and selective shrinkage of the composite material during cooling from molding temperatures provides desirable bearing surface within the inner bore through the inner segment. Thrust bearing surfaces at the ends of the inner segment engage mating bearing surfaces that include lubricant traps to inhibit migration of lubricant away from the bearing surfaces of the drive roller.

  • Patent number: 5758836
Abstract: A data tape cartridge is formed on a baseplate of polymeric material which supports mounting pins and tape guides thereon for supporting tape components in rigid and dimensionally-stable manner using integrally formed bosses to support the mounting pins and guides. Additional stability against flexure is achieved using a matrix pattern of integrally-formed webs or ribs and sidewalls in the baseplate and by attaching a top plate substantially about the entire perimeter of the sidewalls. Lateral forces exerted against rotatable components on the mounting pins are transferred to the baseplate and top plate by the mounting pins that are supported in both plates. A midguide support is integrally formed in the baseplate to support a guide pin at critical location adjacent the location along the tape path in the cartridge at which a tape transducer interacts with tape.

  • Patent number: 5542593
Abstract: A tape guide for operation in contact with the back side of magnetic tape exhibits an increase in the coefficient of friction between the tape guide and the tape with increased wear of the guide surface associated with repeated passes of tape in sliding engagement over the tape contacting surface of the guide. The resulting increased frictional drag on magnetic tape with wear of the tape guide improves overall performance by reducing instantaneous speed variations (ISV) in the tape attributable to translational vibrations in the tape over the life of the tape and tape guide. The tape contacting surface of the tape guide includes a metal alloy including copper zinc, nickel and lead that may be integrally incorporated into the tape guide or plated thereon at least in the tape contacting region thereof.

  • Patent number: 5299086
Abstract: A multi-armed spring in a data tape cartridge is formed from a planar sheet of resilient material and is shaped and mounted to maintain loose components in place during assembly, and to press tape hubs and belt rollers toward a base portion of the cartridge, thereby to provide tension and lateral position for the tape within the cartridge. The spring has five arms extending from a central mounting region, with first arm and a second arm extending substantially in opposite directions from the central region to corner belt rollers. A third arm extends from the central region in a direction perpendicular to the aligned first arm and second arm to a drive roller for the belt. A fourth arm extends from the central region in an angular direction intermediate the right angle formed by the first arm and third arm to a tape hub, and a fifth arm extends from the central region in an angular direction intermediate the right angle formed by the second arm and third arm to another tape hub.
