  • Publication number: 20090212626
Abstract: A dual-energy storage system is described, having two energy sources: (a) a fast-energy storage devices (FES) such as an ultracapacitor, and (b) a long duration or steady power device, such as a fuel-cell or battery. A power converter or controller executes an energy management algorithm to determine when to provide bursts of additional power/current from the fast-energy storage device, and when to recharge the fast-energy storage device. A method is further described of adaptively managing the state of charge of an ultracapacitor or other Fast Energy Storage device in the dual energy storage system of a Plug-in Hybrid propulsion system. The method provides good protection of the battery, good performance, and minimizes the required capacity of the ultracapacitor.

  • Publication number: 20090191928
Abstract: A vegetative shredder and destemming apparatus that includes a shredding drum having a interior volume into which a harvested plant crop may be placed for processing. The drum includes a substantially cylindrical side with a plurality of openings and at least one brush roller disposed proximate the cylindrical side. A motor rotates the shredding drum and the brush rollers simultaneously. The apparatus employs centrifugal force to urge portions of the plant material into engagement with the drum's cylindrical side and the openings therethrough so as to allow bring the brush rollers to mechanically shred and destem the plant material.

  • Publication number: 20090075053
Abstract: A concrete material having an extended service life and a process of making is herein provided. The concrete material has at least one organic water soluble diffusive transport modifying material that decreases the diffusivity of deleterious species through a pore solution within the concrete matrix. A process for making the concrete provides a variety of methods of introduction of the at least one organic water soluble diffusive transport modifying material into the pore solution of the concrete. The at least one organic water soluble diffusive transport modifying material may be added directly into a wet mix; the concrete may be cured in a solution having the transport modifying material; the transport modifying material may be mixed with a porous aggregate prior to adding to a wet concrete mixture; and the at least one transport modifying material may be introduced into the pore solution with a combination of these methods.

  • Patent number: 4845887
Abstract: A floor recess mountable trap including a plurality of scented, access channelways leading to an interior containment cavity whereat a rotatable, vaporizer, attractor member is mounted in displaced relation to the channelway exits. Depending upon the recess depth, a ramp collar maybe used. A one-way valve member prevent escape from the cavity.
