Patent number: 5454524Abstract: A disc feeder for delivering material in controlled amounts to utilization equipment. The disc which carries material to a material discharge opening is disposed at an angle to the horizontal and the shearing baffle which controls the amount of material carried to the material discharge opening is movable from its position during normal operation to a position remote from the disc, whereby during unloading of the storage hopper the material discharges freely and quickly to a storage container. A control valve selectively directs material to one delivery conduit which leads to the utilization equipment and a second delivery conduit which leads to the storage container. The apparatus has an interlock mechanism which prevents moving the shearing baffle while material is being conducted to the utilization equipment and prevents moving the control valve to direct material to the utilization equipment while the shearing baffle is at its remote position.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1994Date of Patent: October 3, 1995Assignee: K-Tron Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth W. Patent number: 5350089Abstract: A feeder for dispensing flowable substances and a coupling which causes rotation of the feed screw of the feeder in response to the drive system of the feeder. The feed screw is removable from the feeder, with insertion and removal of the feed screw effected by only axial movement of the feed screw. A torque transmitting member, connected to the drive system, and a torque receiving member, from which the feed screw extends, have complementary non-circular mating surfaces through which the torque from the drive system is imparted to the feed screw. Unintended axial movement of the feed screw is prevented by a locking arrangement between the torque transmitting member and the torque receiving member. The torque transmitting member has a pilot portion which facilitates insertion of the feed screw in the feeder and provides guidance of the feed screw during operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1993Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Assignee: K-Tron Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Friedrich W. Patent number: 4819015Abstract: The anti-theft product rack continuously monitors the weight of the rack including individual product units. When a weight deviation is detected, it is characterized as either a disturbance or as the removal of one or more product units. An alarm is sounded if the rack is continuously disturbed for a programmable number of continuous weight sensing cycles, or if a programmable number of disturbances occur during a programmable period of time. In addition, an alarm is sounded if the number of product units detected as being removed at one time exceeds a programmable limit. Finally, if the number of detected product units removed exceeds a programmable number during a programmable period of time, an alarm is sounded. The product display rack presents no physical barriers to product removal and requires no intervention of sales personnel for product removal.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1988Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Assignee: K-Tron International, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth W. Patent number: 4811835Abstract: Mechanical resonance of the vibratory feeder is maintained by minimizing a phase angle difference between substantially sinusoidal drive voltage and current wave forms. The mass flow rate of material being fed is controlled by controlling the electrical power applied to the vibratory feeder compared with a desired electrical power computed from a desired flow rate. The preferred embodiment includes synthesized drive wave forms which are variable in frequency and amplitude in order to maintain the vibratory feeder in mechanical resonance at the desired flow rate. Resonant operation and accurate material flow are accomplished without use of electromechanical vibration sensors and control is accomplished using the magnitude and phase relationships between the applied voltage and current drive wave forms.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1988Date of Patent: March 14, 1989Assignee: K-Tron International, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth W. Patent number: 4738325Abstract: A weight transducer including an extruded housing having upper and lower inner surfaces. Affixed to the upper inner surface is a hall effect magnetic field sensor, and affixed to the lower inner surface is a pair of magnetic field generating magnets. The magnets are arranged with magnetic poles of opposite polarity located adjacent one another. The hall effect sensor senses changes in the magnetic field generated by the pair of magnets due to relative movement between the upper and lower inner surfaces with application of weight to the housing. The voltage output of the hall effect sensor is converted to a signal having a frequency which varies in proportion to the weight applied to the housing. The hall effect weight transducer provides a very rugged and relatively inexpensive yet highly accurate weight transducer.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1986Date of Patent: April 19, 1988Assignee: K-Tron International, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth W. Patent number: RE30684Abstract: The throughput of a conveyor belt is controlled by a motor whose speed is established by the instantaneous state of an up/down counter. The counter is incremented upwardly by setpoint pulses representative of the desired mass flow rate, and downwardly by feedback pulses from a rate multiplier representative of the actual mass flow rate. When the actual mass flow rate is equal to the setpoint flow rate, the average number of setpoint pulses will equal the average number of feedback pulses with the result that the state of the counter will be stable with time. Speed control means for the motor maintains the belt speed at a level dependent upon the state of the counter. A variation between the actual and desired mass flow rates is manifested by a change in the average number of feedback pulses which results in a change in the state of the counter.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1975Date of Patent: July 21, 1981Assignee: K-Tron International, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth W.
