  • Publication number: 20080069962
Abstract: An improved synthetic, polymer hydrogel permeation layer for use with an active electronic matrix device for biological assays. The permeation layer includes a dried coating of raffinose or a combination of raffinose and stachyose to protect the permeation layer from degradation during shipping and storage.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 28, 2007
    Publication date: March 20, 2008
    Inventors: James Light, Kenny Nguyen
  • Publication number: 20060166285
Abstract: An electronic device including at least one electrode on a substrate and a permeation layer overlaying the at least one electrode. The permeation layer comprises a polymer having a plurality of negatively-charged moieties. The negatively charged moieties may be carboxylates. In one embodiment, the negatively charged moieties are carboxylates from acrylic acids in the permeation layer. The amount of acrylic acid may be less than about 5 mol %. The permeation layer may also contain streptavidin and/or a surfactant. Methods of using the electronic device are also disclosed in which at least one of the selectively addressable electrodes are biased to at least partially neutralize the negatively charged moieties in the overlying permeation layer. Charged entities can then bind to the permeation layer over the biased electrode.

  • Patent number: 6867733
Abstract: A method and system whereby two mobile units can locate each other is presented. A user connects an interface device, such as a personal digital assistance (PDA), a wireless phone, a laptop, or a pager, to a mobile unit. The mobile unit regularly obtains its location through a location-determining technology (e.g., GPS) and sends the location to a service provider computer. The service provider computer maintains a database of the current location of all the mobile units, and provides the location of mobile units to each of the mobile units. The mobile unit communicates with the service provider wirelessly through a communication network and a data network, for example the Internet. A user of the mobile unit can send messages to other users with a location stamp, which indicates the location of the message sender's mobile unit. In addition, a user can send a request to be notified when a target mobile unit reaches a reference point. The reference point may be defined relative to the location of the requester.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 9, 2001
Date of Patent: March 15, 2005
    Assignee: At Road, Inc.
Inventors: Kulbir S. Sandhu, Roderic C. Fan, David Mleczko, Kenny Nguyen, Carey Fan
