  • Patent number: 8434784
Abstract: An airbag apparatus is mounted on a vehicle as housed in a housing and includes an airbag inflatable with inflation gas for catching an object of protection. The airbag includes a sheet-shaped circumferential wall made from synthetic resin. The circumferential wall is plastically deformable in such a manner as to be elongated due to increase of internal pressure caused by being pressed by the object of protection when arresting the object of protection at full inflation.

  • Publication number: 20130076013
Abstract: The airbag has a front portion, in which a front chamber is formed, a rear portion, in which a rear chamber is formed, and a partition, which partitions the front and rear chambers from each other. The partition has a communication passage for connecting the front and rear chambers to communicate to each other. A pressure regulating valve is located in the passage. At an early stage of a supply period during which an inflator supplies inflation gas to the airbag, the valve is closed to restrict flow of the inflation gas from the rear chamber to the front chamber via the passage. The valve is opened during the supply period to permit the inflation gas to flow therethrough. A front portion of the airbag is roll-folded, while a rear portion is accordion-folded. The airbag front portion and the airbag rear portion are located in front of the inflator.

  • Patent number: 8328232
Abstract: An airbag apparatus includes an airbag. The airbag includes a gas releasing valve having first and second valve body portions each have a flexible portion. The flexible portions are flexible toward a released gas downstream side of inflation gas. An auxiliary joint portion joins the first and second valve body portions to each other and extending, from a position in the vicinity of and on a released gas upstream side of the flexible portion, further toward the released gas upstream side. A flex-resistant portion that extends in the gas releasing direction and is less flexible than the flexible portion is arranged on the auxiliary joint portion of the gas releasing valve or in the vicinity of the auxiliary joint portion.

  • Publication number: 20120025499
Abstract: An inflation portion of an airbag, which is inflated by inflation gas, is partitioned into an upstream inflation portion and a downstream inflation portion via a partition member. When being tensioned in a planar manner, the partition member has a length in a longitudinal direction that is longer than a length in a transverse direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. A pressure regulating valve that is closed at an early stage of a supply period of the inflation gas to the inflation portion and is opened from the middle of the supply period includes a slit-like inner opening that is provided on the partition member and extends in the transverse direction and a pair of valve body portions that are provided around the inner opening and are selectively positioned close to and separated from each other.

  • Patent number: 7926838
Abstract: A side impact protection airbag system includes an inflator, a retainer and an airbag. An interior space of the airbag is divided into a pelvis portion protecting chamber and a chest portion protecting chamber by a dividing part. A gas ejecting part of the inflator and an opening in the retainer are provided between a fixing end portion of the airbag and an end portion (a connecting portion) of the dividing part which lies a side facing the fixing end portion. A circumferential portion on a wall part which is separate from the opening is made to constitute an interruption wall which interrupts the passage of an inflation gas to the dividing part side, and the interruption wall is provided between the gas ejecting part and the connecting portion.

  • Patent number: 7905513
Abstract: A side impact airbag apparatus includes an inflator 41 that discharges inflation gas, an airbag 20 that incorporates the inflator in a rear portion and is folded to form a storage state, and a storage portion located in the vicinity of an outer side of an occupant seated on a vehicle seat. The storage portion stores the inflator 41 and the airbag 20 when in the storage state. Inflation gas discharged from the inflator 41 in response to a side collision inflates and deploys the airbag 20 into a space between a body side portion of the vehicle and the vehicle seat while unfolding the airbag 20. A front portion of the airbag 20 in a deployed state that is forward of the inflator 41 is folded from the front toward the rear, so that the airbag 20 is made into a transitional form elongated in an up-down direction.

  • Patent number: 7900957
Abstract: A side airbag apparatus includes an airbag 30 and an inflator assembly 20 incorporated in the airbag 30. The airbag 30 is formed by first and second inflation sections 31, 42. An insertion portion 49 in an upper portion of the second inflation section 42 is located in a lower portion of a receptacle portion 38 of the first inflation section 31. The gas discharge passages 57 for discharging inflation gas G in the first inflation section 31 to the outside of the airbag 30 are formed between the overlapped insertion portion 49 and receptacle portion 38. In this state, the first and second inflation sections 31, 42 are connected to each other. When the first inflation section 31 is not restraining the occupant, the inflation gas G in each inflation section 31, 42 causes the insertion portion 49 to closely contact the receptacle portion 38, so that the gas discharge passages 57 are closed.

  • Publication number: 20090200776
Abstract: A side airbag apparatus includes a flat airbag formed of a pair of base fabric sheets, which are stacked in the widthwise direction of a vehicle. The airbag is stored in an outer side portion of a seat back portion of a vehicle seat. Inflation gas is supplied to the airbag in response to an impact from the exterior. This inflates and deploys the airbag between a body side portion of the vehicle and the vehicle seat. A pair of tucked portions are located rearward of a center of the airbag. The tucked portions are formed by folding parts of the airbag. The tucked portions are joined to each other while being vertically stacked. Further, the width of the airbag along the widthwise direction of the vehicle in the vicinity of the tucked portions when the airbag is inflated is larger than the width of a rear portion of an airbag having no tucked portion along the widthwise direction of the vehicle when the airbag is inflated.
