    Abstract: A printing apparatus is achieved that has an auto-splice function and is capable of performing, when roll paper is replaced, suitable maintenance taking into account a print process scheduled to be executed after replacement of the roll paper. When a splicer replaces, regarding the roll paper to be used, the preceding roll paper with the subsequent roll paper, a print control unit controls an operation of a printing unit such that an inspection pattern is printed at a tail of continuous paper unwound from the preceding roll paper, and a maintenance content control unit determines maintenance content for an inkjet head in accordance with a criterion suitable for printing on continuous paper unwound from the subsequent roll paper based on an inspection result obtained by inspection of a print image for the inspection pattern.

The conveyance control unit maintains the conveyance speed at a first speed in a period when a chart printing process is performed and a period when a chart imaging process is performed. The conveyance control unit decreases the conveyance speed from the first speed to the second speed after the end of the chart imaging process in an adjustment process except for an adjustment process that is performed last in the batch adjustment process, and increases the conveyance speed from the second speed to the first speed before the start of the chart printing process in an adjustment process that is performed next.
