  • Patent number: 5367834
Abstract: An apparatus for successively grinding the edges of a series of like, sheetlike articles, such as glass sheets, and especially irregularly shaped glass articles such as automotive windows. The apparatus includes a frame, a table rotatably secured to the frame, a clamp for clamping an article on the table, and a template of the article carried by the table, but at an elevation below that of the article. The apparatus also has a swing arm assembly which carries a spindle near its outer free end, an inner end of the swing arm assembly being pivotally secured to the frame, the swing arm assembly being movable in a plane to move the spindle toward or away from the table. The spindle of the swing arm assembly has a rotatable grinding wheel which is positioned to engage the edge of an article on the table and a motor drive for rotating the grinding wheel. The spindle further has a cam follower which is positioned to engage the edge of the template when the grinding wheel engages the article.

  • Patent number: 5173029
Abstract: A device (10) for positioning a glass sheet or other generally rigid planar object (G), having a roller bed table (12) for supporting the object in a horizontal plane and an overhead device (14) carrying a first set of spaced apart arms (26, 28, 30, 32), each of which has a vertically acting cylinder (70) near a free end thereof, and a second set of spaced apart arms (20, 22, 24) near a free end thereof, each of which has a horizontally acting cylinder (48) near the free end thereof. Each vertically acting cylinder has a sheet edge contacting element (74) at the free end of its cylinder rod (72), and these edge contacting elements act as fixed stops during the positioning of the object. Each horizontally acting cylinder has a sheet edge contacting element (52) of the free end of its cylinder rod (50), and these edge contacting elements act as movable stops during the positioning of the object.

  • Patent number: 5028176
Abstract: A glass drilling machine for drilling holes in a sheet of glass in which each hole is partly drilled from one side of the sheet and is then finish drilled from the opposite side. The machine is made up of aligned first and second drilling devices which are attached near the ends of first and second pivotable arms, respectively, the first and second arms being periodically pivoted toward and away from the sheet to bring the drilling devices into and out of drilling engagement with the sheet. The first and second arms are releasably clamped to first and second spindles, respectively, which pivot about first and second axes, respectively, the first and second axes being spaced apart but close to one another and positioned remote from the drilling devices. The position of the first arm is adjustable along its longitudinal axis and the position of the second arm is adjustable along the axis of the second spindle.
