Patent number: 6230582Abstract: An awning is attached to and wound on a spring loaded roller. The roller rotates on shafts secured to shaft mounts at each end. The shaft mount is secured on the end of a support arm. A crank has a two prong engagement member that fits in a slot of the shaft mount. The shaft mount is released from the support arm and the crank is turned to adjust spring force in the roller.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1998Date of Patent: May 15, 2001Assignee: White Consolidated Industries, Inc.Inventors: Kent Becker, Robert D. Patent number: 6112392Abstract: A guide and a method of using the guide to install a spline of a canopy in a channel formed in a side wall of a roller tube having an end with a circumferential edge. The guide has an interior groove formed therein for receiving a portion of the circumferential edge so as to mount the guide to the roller tube. A wall of the guide covers the circumferential edge and defines a mounting opening. When the guide is mounted to the roller tube, the mounting opening is disposed over an end of the channel so as to permit the spline to be moved through the mounting opening and into the channel. The wall may define a second mounting opening for disposal over an end of a second channel formed in the side wall of the roller tube.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: White Consolidated Industries, Inc.Inventors: Kent Becker, Robert Anderson

Patent number: 5752536Abstract: A retractable awning for a recreational vehicle slide-out which prevents rain, snow and other debris from collecting on the roof of the slide-out. The awning is provided with an inner edge secured to the adjacent wall of the recreational vehicle immediately above the slide-out roof. The opposite edge of the awning is connected to a roller journaled on arms pivotally mounted on the outer face of the slide-out. A locking mechanism automatically prevents rotation of the roller when the slide-out is in a retracted position to prevent billowing of the awning when the recreational vehicle travels and automatically allows rotation of the roller when the slide-out moves away from the retracted position to wind and unwind the awning onto the roller. The lock mechanism includes a lock arm which blocks rotation of the roller only when the slide-out is in the retracted position so that no operations or manipulations are required by the operator to lock or unlock the lock mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1997Date of Patent: May 19, 1998Assignee: White Consolidated Industries, Inc.Inventor: Kent Becker

Patent number: 5566918Abstract: A roller assembly is provided for mounting on a vehicle having a door and an awning mounted adjacent the door. The door has a generally-rectangularly shaped face and edging along edges of the face. The roller assembly comprises a roller and a bracket having a mounting portion with a substantially planar surface for abutting the face of the door and a supporting portion for rotatably supporting the roller angularly intersecting the mounting portion. The bracket is adapted for positioning the axis of rotation of the roller generally horizontal and above the edging near a top corner of the door. The supporting portion is adapted to position the axis of rotation of the roller to intersect an axis of rotation of the door.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1994Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Assignee: The Dometic CorporationInventor: Kent Becker

Patent number: 5560411Abstract: A header rail is provided for mounting an awning having an awning rope and rafter arms to a building wall having siding with outwardly extending laps. The header rail includes an extrusion having a front wall and a pair of legs extending from the front wall. The legs have generally co-planar building wall engaging surfaces and space the front wall from the building wall to form a longitudinally extending interior space sized for accepting one or more of the siding laps. The front wall forms in cross-section a longitudinally extending awning rope retainer and a longitudinally extending guide way. Rafter extensions are provided to slide into the guide way and pivotally connect the rafter arms.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1994Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Assignee: The Dometic CorporationInventor: Kent Becker
