The contact members extending above the top surface and below the bottom surface to contact respective ones of the contact pads of the first and second circuit components.

A plurality of terminals are received in the transversely spaced cavities. The terminals are in pairs for engaging the contact pads on opposite sides of the printed circuit board. One terminal in each pair is disposed in a respective one of the transversely spaced cavities.

    Abstract: A push-pull edge card electrical connector is adapted for receiving an edge of a printed circuit board having contact pads on opposite sides of the board adjacent the edge. The connector includes an elongated dielectric housing having an elongated slot for receiving the edge of the printed circuit board. A plurality of first and second alternating terminal-receiving cavities are spaced along at least one side of the slot and separated by transverse walls extending generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the housing. The cavities are disposed between longitudinal side walls of the housing and a reinforcing rib extends across and joins the transverse walls of at least some of the cavities generally adjacent the slot. A first press-fit recess is located generally adjacent but spaced from one of the longitudinal sidewalls of the first cavities and a second press-fit recess is located generally adjacent but spaced from the reinforcing rib within the second cavities.

    Abstract: A connector assembly is adapted for electrically connecting a printed circuit board with another electrical device, the circuit board having a mating edge with a generally linear array of contact pads along the edge on each opposite side of the board. An elongated dielectric housing has a cavity along its length for receiving the mating edge of the printed circuit board, and a plurality of narrow closely-spaced slots extending transversely of the cavity. Each slot is adapted for receiving a unitary thin contact member having a singular base portion traversing the cavity with opposed spring contact arms extending from the singular base portion into the slot, and with distal ends of the contact arms engageable with the contact pads on both opposite sides of the printed circuit board. A plurality of pairs of thin contact members are mountable on the housing to form a closely-spaced linear terminal array lengthwise of the cavity. One pair of the contact members is located in each slot in the housing.

    Abstract: An electrical connector includes an elongated dielectric housing having an elongated slot disposed generally along a longitudinal axis of the housing for receiving, edgewise, a printed circuit board. A plurality of terminals are inserted through a bottom terminating face of the housing into a plurality of passages along at least one side of the slot. Each terminal includes a retention portion press-fit in a retention section of a respective passage. The retention section includes inner side walls and an outer side wall which guides, locates and supports the retention portion and, thereby, the terminal within its respective passage. The retention area of the outer side wall is substantially greater than the retention area of the inner side walls.

    Abstract: A connector for an edge card which includes a plurality of contact terminals spaced apart in an elongated connector housing has at least one latch/eject mechanism rotatably disposed at an end of the connector housing. The latch/eject member operates between a first operative position wherein it latches the edge card in place within the connector housing and a second operative position wherein it at least partially ejects the edge card out of the connector housing. The latch/eject member is limited in its rotation during ejection of the edge card by one or more interference surfaces formed in the latch/eject member which engage a portion of the connector housing during ejection.

    Abstract: An electrical connector is adapted for mounting on a printed circuit board. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a plurality of terminal-receiving passages. A plurality of standoffs project from the housing toward the printed circuit board to space the housing from the board. The housing is unitarily molded of plastic material. A plurality of terminals are received in the passages. Each terminal includes a contact beam section in the housing, a tail section projecting from the housing and a retention section therebetween. A plurality of retention bosses are molded integrally with the housing in alignment with the passages and project from the housing toward the printed circuit board whereby the passages extend through the retention bosses. The terminals are stamped and formed of sheet metal material with at least portions of the retention sections of the terminals being located in the passages within the retention bosses.

    Abstract: An electrical connector assembly is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board. The assembly includes an elongated housing having a mother board-mounting face and a daughter board-receiving face. A pair of generally parallel slots extend lengthwise of the housing in the board-receiving face for receiving a pair of daughter boards. A plurality of terminal-receiving passages are provided along the housing in proximity to each slot. A plurality of terminals are received in the passages, and each terminal has a contact section for engaging a circuit on the respective daughter board received in the respective slot. An elongated stiffening bar is disposed within the elongated housing between the pair of slots therein. The bar is rigid in a direction generally perpendicular to the mother board mounted to the board-mounting face of the housing. Stiffening bar includes a plurality of feet for securing the bar to the mother board and thereby preventing warping thereof.

    Abstract: A surface mounted electrical connector assembly includes a dielectric housing having a mounting peg projecting outwardly from one surface of the housing for insertion into a hole in a printed circuit board. The mounting peg is split to define a slot extending through a distal end of the peg. A bifurcated metal retainer member having barbs thereon is disposed in the slot and projects transversely outwardly therefrom for biasingly engaging the board. Inwardly projecting ribs are provided on the peg, within the slot, with the ribs being engageable with the metal retainer member when the peg is inserted into the hole in the printed circuit board. The ribs are spaced axially from a distal end of the retainer member whereby the retainer member is maintained spaced from the peg within the slot in a zone between the rib means and the distal end of the peg.

    Abstract: An edge connector is provided for a printed circuit board having a mating edge and a plurality of contact pads adjacent the edge. The connector includes an elongated dielectric housing having a board-receiving slot for receiving the mating edge of the printed circuit board. A plurality of spring contact elements are mounted in the housing along at least one side of the slot. The spring contact elements have spring contact portions extending into the slot for contacting respective ones of the contact pads on the printed circuit board. A surface on the housing at the one side of the slot defines a datum plane beyond which the spring contact portion of at least one of the spring contact elements extends into the slot. A biasing spring on the housing biases the printed circuit board against the surface, thereby deflecting the spring contact portion of the at least one spring contact element a predetermined amount.

    Abstract: A card edge connector assembly includes an elongated housing having opposite ends with card injection and ejection levers thereat, and a card receiving slot between the ends. A printed circuit card has an edge insertable into the slot. The edge of the card is provided with a notch for embracing a partition spanning the slot of the housing to locate the card longitudinally of the housing. The partition of the housing and the notch in the card edge are complementarily offset from a mid-point of the slot to provide polarization between the card and the housing. Each insertion and ejection lever includes a plurality of spaced projections for interengagement with a plurality of recesses in an adjacent side edge of the printed circuit card. The projections move seriatim into and out of the recesses in response to pivoting of the lever to thereby insert and eject the card to and from the slot in response to pivoting the lever between the latched position and the eject position.

    Abstract: A SIMM socket with a metal latch for retaining a SIMM therein is provided. The socket includes a housing having a SIMM receiving slot and a plurality of terminals with contact beams extending into the slot. The SIMM is inserted into the slot in a first angular alignment with minimal insertion forces, and is rotated into a second alignment for achieving high quality electrical connection with the contact beams of the respective terminals. A metal latch is provided for releasably retaining the SIMM in the preferred angular alignment within the socket. The latch is stamped and formed from a unitary piece of metallic material and includes a housing engaging portion and a deflectable SIMM engaging portion. The housing includes walls for controlling the types and ranges of deflection that are permitted for the SIMM engaging portion.

An elongated housing is provided with a card receiving slot for receiving the edge of the printed circuit card. A plurality of pairs of contact elements are mounted in the housing along the length of the slot. Each pair of contact elements includes a short contact element having a spring contact portion for engaging one of the first conductive pads, and a long contact element having a spring contact portion for engaging one of the second conductive pads. The contact portions of each pair of contact elements are spatially overlapped each other in a direction transversely of the slot to increase the deflection capabilities of the contact elements.

The retaining post is tubular having an axial slot extending through the sidewall thereof so as to be resilient and durable. Further, each of the contacts disposed within the connector housing includes a stabilizing arm that opposes the forces created by the insertion of the printed circuit card into the connector housing so as to distribute the opposing forces between the stabilizing arm and the base of the contact. Contacts of alternating sizes and having beams of different angles with the base are employed in the connector.
