Patent number: 8587851Abstract: An apparatus for generating target color recipes includes a controller (202) using test chart data (100) including first and second sets of test patches to generate a flexible color model (214) for accurately predicting color response throughout the printer colorant space. The first set of test patches includes mostly patches distributed throughout colorant space. The second set of patches includes mostly patches in selected colorant space areas and with limitations on the number of chromatic colorants with non-zero tints. The controller generates recipes for target colors using the model generated after one measurement iteration.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2011Date of Patent: November 19, 2013Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Kent M. Brothers

Patent number: 8040560Abstract: A method for determining (250) a change required in a selected base point in an input colorant space of a digital-image rendering system to obtain from the digital-image rendering system a desired reference output color to within a predetermined color tolerance comprises determining the required change based on a local approximation of the colorant/color relationship at the selected base point. Gradient points are automatically generated (210) that are proximate or coincident with the selected base point and that are different from any other base point than the selected base point. A linear approximation to the colorant/color relationship at the selected base point is computed (240) from the gradient points and the measured (230) output colors at the gradient points as rendered (220) by the digital-image rendering system and. The required change is determined from the local gradient of the colorant/color relationship at the selected base point.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2008Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Andreas M. Albat, Kent M. Brothers, Jennifer L. Canonayon

Patent number: 8005299Abstract: A method for making a device link (90) for a color management system, with an associated imaging apparatus (20), wherein the device link specifies a transformation of digital-image colorant combinations to imaging-apparatus colorant combinations. The device link converts the digital image (70) to a modified digital image (100) represented using the imaging-apparatus colorant combinations, thereby allowing the imaging apparatus to produce an output image (170) having output-image colors matching reference-image colors at corresponding physical locations in a reference image (80).Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2011Date of Patent: August 23, 2011Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Kent M. Brothers, Jeffrey C. Brewster

Patent number: 7257274Abstract: A system and method for scaling raster image data in multiple directions. One embodiment of the present invention comprises obtaining input scan lines containing a raster image and obtaining at least one scaling value. The method involves a process for altering the length of the scan lines to produce modified scan lines. The method also involves the generation of a plurality of masks, wherein the masks comprise a number of selected bits, and wherein the number of selected bits is based on the scaling value. The method processes sequences of the modified scan lines with individual masks to produce a plurality of output scan lines. The output scan lines are configured to form a raster image having a modified scale in multiple directions.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2002Date of Patent: August 14, 2007Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Kent M. Brothers, Peter L. Smith

Patent number: 7248734Abstract: The present invention provides for a method and system for reducing the storage required for transmitting digital images. The reduction is accomplished by coalescing identical pixels that are adjacent to each other. Accordingly, a determination is made as to whether pixels along a first axis are identical with pixels along a second axis and, if they are identical, they are coalesced together. The process is repeated along a second axis such that an image resulting from the reduction is significantly smaller, especially if the image was originally upsampled. The present invention reverses the upsampling process to create a reduced image. Additionally, the present invention allows for differentiation between upsampled contone data and linework data that may be overlaid over upsampled contone data. Image data that is linework data is treated as wild card pixels in the image and may be coalesced with any adjacent pixel when coalescing adjacent pixels.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2003Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Assignee: Kodak Graphic Communications Canada CompanyInventor: Kent M.
