  • Publication number: 20090062925
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing deeper knee flexion capabilities, more physiologic load bearing and improved patellar tracking for knee prosthesis patients. Such systems and methods include (i) adding more articular surface to the antero-proximal posterior condyles of a femoral component, including methods to achieve that result, (ii) modifications to the internal geometry of the femoral component and the associated femoral bone cuts with methods of implantation, (iii) asymmetrical tibial components that have an unique articular surface that allows for deeper knee flexion than has previously been available and (iv) asymmetrical femoral condyles that result in more physiologic loading of the joint and improved patellar tracking.

  • Patent number: 5792143
Abstract: A method of implanting a hip prosthesis includes utilization of a device at the implantation site to confirm that the femoral prosthesis will have a neck length corresponding to a preoperative plan. First, a desired neck size for the femoral prosthesis is determined. Then, the femoral prosthesis is positioned in the femur. Next, a locator rod component is advanced toward the femoral prosthesis along an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the femoral prosthesis until a greater trochanter locator mounted on the side of the locator rod component is as close as possible to contacting the greater trochanter of the femur. Next, a neck sizing component, which has neck size markings on its outer surface, is placed on the neck projection of the femoral prosthesis.

  • Patent number: 5611802
Abstract: A method and apparatus for resecting bone includes an anterior femur resection guide assembly for performing an anterior femur osteotomy, a distal femur resecting guide assembly for performing a distal femur osteotomy, a compound posterior femur-chamfer resection guide assembly for performing an anterior femur osteotomy, and a tibia resection guide assembly for performing a proximal tibia osteotomy. The anterior femur resection guide assembly, the distal femur resecting guide assembly, the tibia resecting guide assembly, and the compound posterior femur-chamfer resection guide assembly each includes a capture plate subassembly which restricts lateral movement of a saw during resection. The distal femur resecting guide assembly and the tibia resecting guide assembly also include subassemblies for verifying the correct positioning of a distal femur and proximal tibia osteotomies.

  • Patent number: 4232404
Abstract: An endoprosthetic ankle joint device comprises a talar component with a convex articulatory surface having an intermediate part-circular-cylindrical area coaxially flanked at each end by like mutually divergent part-conical areas, and a tibial component with an assymetrical concave articulatory surface complementary with said convex cylindrical area and one of said conical areas. In one form of the device the tibial concave surface has areas complementary with each of the talar conical areas, but to different extents, with the former areas being respectively axially longer and shorter. In another form, the tibial concave surface is only complementary with one of the talar conical areas, and the device comprises a fibular component for articulation with the other talar conical area.
