Abstract: A process for preparing high absorptivity granular sodium phosphate mixtures made of sodium tripolyphosphate, pyrophosphates, metaphosphates and orthophosphates by hydrating and dehydrating a mixture comprising sodium tripolyphosphate in major proportion, and recovering the high absorptivity granular sodium phosphate mixture.

Abstract: A method of disposing of wastes containing heavy metal compounds by neutralizing the wastes, oxidizing the neutralized wastes, then solidifying the oxidized wastes using conventional mineral binding agents such as Portland cement. This method is of particular interest in treating arsenic sulfide containing aqueous sludges produced in the manufacture of phosphoric acid.

Abstract: A continuous process for preparing nitrilotriacetonitrile in which the reactants, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide, and either ammonia or hexamethylenetetramine are reacted first in a mixing reactor, preferably a circulating loop reactor at from about 90.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C., then reacted in a plug flow tubular reactor at from about 95.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C., then after cooling the reaction mixture crystalline nitrilotriacetonitrile is recovered.

Abstract: A process for preparing an ethylenediamine intermediate for the production of an ethylenediaminetetraacetonitrile. Formaldehyde is combined with ethylenediamine at a mole ratio of 1 to 2 respectively wherein the molar ratio of ethylenediamine to formaldehyde in the reaction mixture at least 0.48 or greater.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing crystalline nitrilotriacetonitrile from a solution of nitrilotriacetonitrile and water in excess of 95.degree. C., comprising:a. cooling the nitrilotriacetonitrile-water solution in a first stage to the range of about 70.degree. C. to about 90.degree. C., preferably from about 80.degree. C. to about 90.degree. C., and more preferably about 85.degree. C., to produce a nitrilotriacetonitrile water slurry; andb. further cooling the nitrilotriacetonitrile-water slurry in a second stage to below about 35.degree. C., carried out either continuously or in a batch process. Cooling in the first stage is preferably accomplished by recycling cooled nitrilotriacetonitrile-water slurry from the second stage. Cooling in the second stage is preferably accomplished by vacuum cooling.

Abstract: Compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein M is an alkali metal or ammonium, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and R.sub.3 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or COOM are useful sequestrants and detergency builders. Lower alkyl esters and acids of such compounds are useful intermediates for their production.

Abstract: Ether carboxylates represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are individually selected from the group consisting of alkyl containing up to 20 carbon atoms, and M.sup.1, M.sup.2 and M.sup.3 are individually selected from the group consisting of alkyl containing up to about 4 carbon atoms, are useful as intermediates to prepare the corresponding acid or alkali metal, ammonium and alkanol amine salts, which are useful as chelants, sequestrants and detergent builders.
