  • Publication number: 20100147033
Abstract: Methods for substantially improving the stability of a melting furnace system including bushings and cooling apparatus for converting molten mineral material to continuous fibers is disclosed. Apparatus and methods for maintaining the molten material throughput and the electrical power load on fiberizing bushings substantially constant are disclosed. The orifice plate, with or without tips or nozzles, is subjected to a more rapid rate of heat removal after the bushing breaks out than it did while the bushing was in a desired fiberizing mode. Apparatus for blowing cooling air upward onto the orifice plate during the time the bushing is breaking out and/or hanging to provide additional cooling is disclosed along with optional additional or alternative apparatus to use for optional additional or alternative cooling is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20100071474
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide field test devices and methods for testing the compressive gradient strength of installed vehicle arresting systems, such as those installed on airport runways. Current methods of testing such arresting systems are conducted on sample materials in-house, and these methods are not applicable or useful when tests need to be conducted on currently-installed systems in the field.

  • Publication number: 20050279071
Abstract: A suspension system for a tractor-drawn mower used for crops for agricultural purposes is made up of parallel links, connected at a first end to a frame and to a mowing unit at a second end. A torsion spring assembly, similar to that used for torsion axles, is used to bear a portion of the weight of the mowing unit when the mowing unit is in a lower, mowing position. All torsional stress is removed from the torsion spring when the mowing unit is in a transport position. During mowing, the weight of the mowing unit is divided up between the torsion spring and the surface of the ground. The ratio of the weight supported by the ground to that supported by the torsion spring is adjustable by an operator.

  • Patent number: 6959530
Abstract: An improved mounting arrangement for a knife to a disc for use on a rotary disc cutter that eliminates the need for a threaded connector and the associated nut is disclosed. It also provides a positive retention method on the top side of the disc. In addition, it provides a method of removing the knife from the disc without the use of wrenches, simply requiring a tool for prying, such as a screw driver. A further feature is a low profile retainer that does not need to be protected by a wear protector.

  • Patent number: 6471812
Abstract: A method of reducing humping of a laminated roofing shingle when the shingle is stacked with others of the shingle involves shingles that include a longitudinal central area having an overlay laminated with an underlay. The method involves providing a depression in the shingle that extends through at least a portion of the central area. In another embodiment, the invention is a method of reducing humping of a laminated roofing shingle including an overlay, an underlay, and an adhesive between the overlay and the underlay in an area of the shingle. The method involves providing a depression in the shingle that extends through at least a portion of the adhesive area. In a further embodiment, the invention is a method of reducing humping of a roofing shingle having a sealant in an area of the shingle. The method involves providing a depression in the shingle that extends through at least a portion of the sealant area.
