  • Patent number: 6299471
Abstract: An insulating base plate 113 of a housing 11 includes an upper plate portion 114, a lower plate portion 115, and reinforcing plate portions 116 are formed on and extend between the upper and lower plate portions 114 and 115, and are disposed respectively at those portions of the upper and lower plate portions corresponding respectively to positions where wires of a wire harness W are press-connected to respective terminals. With this construction, the weight of the housing can be reduced because of the provision of hollow portions 117. And besides, since the reinforcing plate portions 116 are formed at those portions of the insulating base plate corresponding respectively to the positions where the wires of the wire harness W are press-connected to the respective terminals, the press-connecting operation can be carried out in a stable manner without flexing the insulating base plate 113.

  • Publication number: 20010009067
Abstract: In a method for fabricating a wire harness with branch terminals, a flexible flat cable (FFC) (11) is first prepared by arranging multiple conductive strips (12) in parallel to each other at a predetermined interval, and by laminating a pair of base films (13) with the conductive strips between them. Then, a row of slots (14A) are formed between any two adjacent conductive strips at a predetermined distance from an end of the FFC, thereby defining a connection area (A) between the end of the FFC and the row of slots. Then, multiple connection terminals (16), each having a contact (17) and a plurality of projections (19), are fixed to the connection area of the FFC by causing the projections of each connection terminal to pierce through one of the conductive strips. Finally, slits (14B) are formed from the end of the FFC so that the slits extend between any two adjacent conductive strips and communicate with the associated slots.

  • Publication number: 20010009819
Abstract: A branch connection structure includes a flexible flat cable (FFC) (21) and connection terminals (22) attached to the middle of the FFC. The FFC comprises conductive strips (23) arranged in parallel to each other at a predetermined interval, and a pair of insulating films (24) sandwiching the conductive strips. One or more slits (25) extend between any two adjacent conductive strips to define a plurality of separated regions (27) in the middle of the FFC, each region including one of the conductive strips. The connection terminal has conductive teeth (31) and a pair of retainers (30) positioned on both sides of the conductive teeth. The conductive teeth pierce through the conductive strip of the separated region from the rear surface of the FFC, and the tips of the conductive teeth are bent so as to pierce again into the conductive strip from the top surface of the separated region.
