    Abstract: A photonic bandgap assembly used in a laser device for generating a near-diffraction-limited optical beam that comprises simultaneous multiple wavelengths. The photonic bandgap fiber assembly has a plurality of serially connected segments each having a photonic crystal fiber each being designed to efficiently perform Raman conversion on a pump wavelength to a near-diffraction-limited output wavelength. A first segment of the assembly is connected to a pump laser, and the output wavelength generated by each segment is output to the following segment to serve as a pump beam of the photonic crystal fiber thereof. Therefore, the pump beam is converted in a plurality of output beams with different wavelengths. The output beams can then be selectively recombined and coupled out as a multiple-wavelength optical beam.

    Abstract: One or more layers of constrained layer damping material is strategically placed within a data storage library having one or more sources of rotational vibration energy. Data storage devices, such as disk drives, are isolated from each other and from a drive tray by a first layer of constrained layer damping material. The drive trays are isolated from drive enclosure bays by a second layer of constrained layer damping material. A third layer of constrained layer damping material isolates each drive enclosure bay from the housing of the data storage library. The net effect is a significant reduction of the amount of rotational vibration energy arriving at each data storage device from other system components, such as a blower module. Additionally, the amount of rotational vibration energy arriving at each data storage device from other data storage devices is also reduced.

    Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for reducing rotational vibration transmission within a data storage system. A storage device apparatus comprises a carrier having opposing first and second side plates. A support point may be disposed within the first side plate at about a longitudinal center region of the carrier. The support point is configured to contact an enclosure that mounts a plurality of carriers and is the sole support point in the first side plate. Preferably, the support point is positioned such that minimal rotational vibration is transmitted within the data storage system once the carrier is placed in an enclosure housing a plurality of carriers. A second support point may be disposed in the second side plate.

    Abstract: An enclosure for storage devices having at least one mounting surface and a viscoelastic layer disposed between a first layer and a second layer of the mounting surface. A receiver secured to the mounting surface within the enclosure receives a storage device carrier that retains a disk drive and positions the storage device carrier within the enclosure. Clip-on damped springs, coupled to the storage device carrier, guide the storage device carrier through the receiver and couple the storage device carrier to the mounting surface(s). A bezel of the storage device carrier is configured to receive a key in one of a plurality of key positions, with each key position corresponding to a particular disk drive/enclosure chassis interface.
