  • Publication number: 20090160425
Abstract: A testing system includes a hand-held transmitter that plugs into a receptacle electrically coupled to a selected branch circuit. The transmitter includes a circuit effective to test an arc fault circuit interrupter electrically coupled to the branch circuit by creating a first pulse on the branch circuit that is effective to trip the arc fault circuit interrupter. The transmitter can perform at least one additional test including: determining whether the receptacle is wired properly; determining a location of a circuit interrupting device electrically coupled to the branch circuit by creating a second pulse on the branch circuit that can be sensed by a receiver located proximately to the respective circuit interrupting device and broadly tuned about a frequency of the second pulse; and testing a ground fault circuit interrupter electrically coupled to the branch circuit by creating a third pulse on the branch circuit that is effective to trip the ground fault circuit interrupter.

  • Publication number: 20090013111
Abstract: A circuit interfaced between a first USB host and a second USB host for providing unidirectional transmission of data signals from the first USB host to the second USB host is provided. A first converter circuit is operable to receive data signals from the first USB host and convert them from a USB protocol to a second communications protocol. A second converter circuit is operable to receive the converted data signals from the first converter circuit and convert them from the second communications protocol to the USB protocol for transmission to the second USB host. The first and second converter circuits are electrically connected to each other in such a manner as to provide a transmission path from the first USB host to the second USB host and to disable a transmission path from the second USB host to the first USB host.

The transmitter includes a circuit effective to test an arc fault circuit interrupter electrically coupled to the branch circuit by creating a first pulse on the branch circuit that is effective to trip the arc fault circuit interrupter. The transmitter can perform an additional test of determining whether the receptacle is wired properly.

  • Publication number: 20050030040
Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with the present invention provide for annunciating a measured electrical value. A handheld electrical tester measures an electrical characteristic. A processor determines one or more spoken words corresponding to a value of the measured electrical characteristic. The one or more spoken words are annunciated via a speaker.

  • Patent number: 5497326
Abstract: A control system for use with a bidirectional motor connected to a motorized vehicle accessory to move the accessory a distance from a first position to a second position. The control system includes a detector responsive to control signals emitted from the motor during rotation, where the control signals indicate the amount of motor rotation. The control system also includes a memory that stores information used to represent the position of the accessory. Additionally, this control system includes a controller responsive to the memory and the detector. The controller provides an output signal to operate the motor based on the distance between a first position and a second position of the accessory as well as control signals that indicate the amount of motor rotation. The controller includes an adjustment routine that determines a correction factor that is applied to the output signal to compensate for inaccuracies in control signal detection.

  • Patent number: 5282238
Abstract: A communication system which enables conventional telephone-type facsimile apparatus to reliably and efficiently communicate over a conventional two-way voice radio communication system. The system includes an interface unit which is connected to the facsimile apparatus and to the transceiver apparatus of the radio communication system without modification to either unit. The interface unit transmits and receives information over the radio system in the form of a series of data packets, each containing origin address, destination address, send sequence and check digit information for optimum transmission accuracy and efficiency. A confirmation packet of like send sequence sent by the receiving unit when received at the transmitting unit verifies transmission. In the absence of such verification the data packet is retransmitted.
