Abstract: The present invention is a removable paper module for use in a printer. The printer is a low-height, narrow-width printer used in home entertainment units. The removable paper module contains both an input tray to hold input media and an output tray to hold printed media and is inserted into the printer via the front plane of the printer. When clearing paper jams, the module is removed simultaneously by removing the input and output trays. When loading input media and retrieving printed media from the printer, the proper tray may be singularly removed.

Abstract: The present invention provides a low profile stackable Internet appliance printer for use with a television receiver and monitor and responsive to commands from a remote device for printing user desired information. The printer has a box like rectangular shaped housing conforming in size to that of conventional electronic audio video components such as cable boxes, DVD players, amplifiers, video tapes and the like to facilitate the stacking of the printer with such other components. A base member supports in a front portion of the printer a printbar and associated printheads to provide the user with easy printhead head access. The base member has an open bottom for receiving a removable combination input/output tray cassette. Upon removal of the combination input/output tray cassette, front user access is made available for the purposes of removing a paper jam should one occur.

The removable input tray includes an integrated platen and at least two capping stations preferably located at the center of the platen. The removable input tray also contains a motor to move the integrated capping stations up to cap the printheads during periods of non-use and down during use.

Abstract: A displaceable print cartridge chute for an inkjet printer. The chute holding the print cartridges is displaceable from the carriage that sweeps the cartridges relative to the media during printing. The chute can be moved from a printing position engaged with the carriage to a service position adjacent a side of the printer so as to facilitate installation and removal of the cartridges through the side rather than the top of the printer. Because cartridges are serviced through the side, a printer incorporating the displaceable print cartridge chute can be stacked with other electronic equipment.

Abstract: An inkjet printer and method of printing to reduce printer footprint size using printhead service stations comprised of printhead wipers, priming and capping apparatus at each end of the path of travel of a printhead carriage having multiple printheads. Selected printheads are serviced in each service station and selected printheads may be used for printing in opposite directions to further reduce footprint size of the printer.

Abstract: A printer architecture provides for significant reduction in overall printer height, allowing front panel of the printer to be used for print cartridge, paper jam, paper load, and print retrieval access. The input paper tray is placed above the output paper tray, behind the scanning print cartridges. The print bar is located adjacent the front panel, allowing the user to easily access paper jams and the print cartridges. This placement of the print bar also facilitates stacking the printer in a racked system or in a consumer entertainment system to perform these necessary functions without removal of the printer from the stack. The output tray is mounted for sliding motion, so that the user can access the printed output upon completion without having to leave an extended paper output during printing. The printing mechanism is located on a slide drawer to allow the user access to load the input tray.
