  • Patent number: 10794311
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for adjusting a fuel/air ratio of an internal combustion engine (10), comprising a catalyst volume (26) with a first catalyst partial volume (26.1) and a second catalyst partial volume (26.2). The second catalyst partial volume (26.2) is arranged downstream from the first catalyst partial volume (26.1). An actual filling level of an exhaust gas constituent in the catalyst volume (26) is calculated from operating parameters of the internal combustion engine (10) and the exhaust system (14) using a computing model, and is adjusted to a nominal value by modifying the fuel/air ratio. The adjustment is carried out first for the second catalyst partial volume (26.2) and only later for the first catalyst partial volume (26.1).

  • Patent number: 8798892
Abstract: A method for the dynamic monitoring of a first lambda probe arranged in an exhaust-gas duct of an internal combustion engine upstream of an exhaust-gas purification system. A period of an output signal of the first lambda probe is determined in a controller of the internal combustion engine, and a lambda regulating signal is determined from an output signal of a second lambda probe connected downstream of the exhaust-gas purification system. A first threshold value for a lengthening of the period of the output signal of the first lambda probe is predefined, in that a characteristic signal (46) is derived from the lambda regulating signal, in that a second threshold value for an inadmissible deviation of the characteristic signal (46) is predefined, and in that an inadmissible asymmetric delay of the first lambda probe is inferred if the lengthening of the period exceeds the first threshold value and the characteristic signal (46) deviates from the second threshold value outside predetermined limits.

  • Patent number: 8489270
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and corresponding device for diagnosing the dynamics of an exhaust gas sensor, which is disposed in an exhaust gas duct of an internal combustion engine in the direction of flow of the exhaust gas upstream or downstream of a catalytic converter and with which the air/fuel ratio of the gas mixture supplied to the internal combustion engine is controlled via a control circuit. During diagnosis, provision is made for at least one actuator intervention to be specified by means of a control algorithm of a diagnostic controller specifically m the direction of an asymmetric behavior, which is achieved by an extension of one of the two ramps, until the actuator intervention is compensated by an asymmetric dynamic error of the exhaust gas sensor, a reaction to said actuator intervention being used as criterion for assessing an asymmetric dynamic error of said exhaust gas sensor.

  • Patent number: 8245566
Abstract: A procedure and device for diagnosing the increasing speed and the dead time of an exhaust gas probe includes carrying out the diagnosis by comparing a modeled and a measured signal after a default change of a fuel air ratio of an air fuel mixture that is supplied to a combustion engine. The signal is an output signal of the exhaust gas probe or a modeled or measured signal that is derived from the output signal. The device for diagnosing the velocity and the dead time of an exhaust gas probe also includes a comparing unit for comparing the modeled signal with the measured signal for diagnosing the velocity and the dead time of the exhaust gas probe after a default change of a fuel air ratio of an air fuel mixture that is supplied to the combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 8186205
Abstract: The invention concerns a procedure and a device for diagnosing the dynamic of an exhaust gas sensor, which is arranged in an exhaust gas duct of a combustion engine and with which a parameter of the gas mixture that is supplied to the combustion engine is regulated by a control loop. It is thereby provided according to the invention that during a diagnosing period a temporal deflection of a regulation correcting variable for the parameter that is derived from an output signal of the exhaust gas sensor or a temporal course of the output signal of the exhaust gas sensor is used for the diagnosis and that the dynamic of the exhaust gas sensor is assumed in an evaluation algorithm. Thereby an improvement of the on-board diagnosis of the dynamic of the exhaust gas sensor can be achieved and in particular lambda probes, which provide a slowing down of their responding behavior, can be detected early on.

  • Patent number: 8167066
Abstract: A method for setting operating states of an internal combustion engine, in particular an internal combustion engine of a hybrid drive. In addition to the internal combustion engine, the hybrid drive includes at least one electric drive, a hybrid coordinator and a control unit assigned to the internal combustion engine in which functions are implemented. The functions request operating states favorable to their running ability from the hybrid coordinator which performs a commensurate modification of the distribution of power between the internal combustion engine and the at least one electric drive.

  • Patent number: 8141345
Abstract: A method for regulating the fuel/air ratio of a combustion process which is operated alternatingly with excess air and air deficiency, and having at least one catalyst volume in the exhaust gas of the combustion process which stores oxygen when there is excess oxygen in the exhaust gas and gives it off when there is oxygen deficiency, in which method the oxygen charges into the catalyst volume taking place when there is excess air, and the oxygen discharges from the catalyst volume taking place when there is air deficiency determined, and in which the fuel/air ratio is regulated in a first control loop such that the sum of the oxygen charges and oxygen discharges determined in a predefined interval takes on a predetermined value, wherein the combustion process is operated using oxygen excess or oxygen deficiency, respectively, at least until these appear at an oxygen-sensitive Nernst probe downstream from the catalyst volume.
